batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Author Posted June 1, 2013 Check out Joe Morgan:And this fantastic shot of him as a hotshot young Astro:I've been an SI obsessed freak for most of my life and that Astro cover was always one of my favorites. It's easy to miss second base - the lone visual reminder that the infielders are on a baseball diamond. Otherwise, Morgan and Jackson appear to be floating in space, like astronauts. That cover is from the period that I consider to be SI's golden age of covers, spanning the mid to late sixties, when SI combined their trend setting talents for sports photography with a newfound sense of creativity.
