I'll give Murphy this much : he knows what he's gonna do with the ball if its hit to him. No hesitation on that bad throw to second, and it was the play to make. I didn't think he had time but replay shows Cueto wasn't going to slide and would have been out with a good throw. Even seeing that play I feel Murphy is progressing nicely at 2nd. There's no doubt he's working very hard at it.

He is definitely getting better, but he will probably always have to work harder than most to keep it up. He also lacks the natural timing good infielders have. Two plays showed that clearly tonight - the rushed play you are talking about, and the slow hopper where he nearly lost the runner earlier.

He deserves a ton of credit for the progress he has made, and I can't imagine that he won't work as hard as he has to.

Then again, when you see Brandon Phillips everybody else looks like the Tin Man before the oil can showed up.

Well, better a leadoff shot than a three-run homer.

Yea, that play where he should have charged a lil, like the booth said. That was too close for comfort.

Bruce juice makes it 4-3 them.

Another K for Ike, hacking at a pitch nowhere near the plate.

Gimme ten minutes with Ike and I'd fix him.

Give these guys ten minutes with Ike. They'll fix him, but good.

I'd like to thank Dusty Baker for sticking his .250 OBA backup SS in amongst all his monster hitters. This game could be a lot worse otherwise.

Hawkins escapes another jam. Somehow it's only 4-3 Commie Pinkos.

Nice play.

Hawkins and Collins have both been tossed.

Not sure I saw all that much in the previous inning for LaTroy to get all that steamed over (except for the fantom foul by Fillips that is but Hawkins seemed pissed even before then) but he did and now he and Terry are going to watch the rest of the game on TV.

Was Gary there in '73? At the playoffs?

Justin time for a steal.

I thought you took the train there together.

Good swing by Ankiel, but an at-em ball ends the minor threat.

That would have been too kool. I'm sure he must have a story to go with it. Maybe not one he'd tell publicly, but I'd love to chat w/him about the series. What he said leads me to believe he ran onto the field at the end. I'd like to hear some details about that.

Whenever Dudas hair sticks out of the lil holes on top of his helmet he does good.

UGH, these umps. I guess he did swing (Byrd)

I'm glad Burke isn't striding toward the first base line as much, but he's still doing it a little. Can't see the upside to that.

He said (booth said) that standing on the 1st base side of the rubber helps his fastball. Dunno about his stride tho.
