Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Yeah, all were former White Sox. That makes 'em Southsiders.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Maybe, but isn't Darryl Boston missing then?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Yeah, all were former White Sox. That makes 'em Southsiders. But that can't be the answer because the question reads, in part:and only the following MetsThey weren't the only Mets to play for the White Sox. See, e.g.:

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Duh. (On both the missing fellas AND the "NorthSider" thing.)
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Hit grand slams on a Sunday?LterNo. But we could use a grand slam today as insurance. If this were the Bizarro world; if I had to come up with a corollary, or second version of this quiz, the question would be:What do the following Mets, and only the following Mets, have in common?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Well, the former group went from the Sox to the Mets, and the latter went from the Mets to the Sox, but that does nothing to eliminate Darryl Boston. Or Darrin Jackson, et al.And Koos, of course, didn't go directly from the Mets to the Sox.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Original drafted/signed White Socks who then became Mets
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Agee and Gallagher were Tribe property first.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 The answer is in the cards.Topps All-Rookie Team honorees from the White Sox who went on to the Mets.Seaver, Koosman, and Jones received the honor as Mets, and eventually went on to the White Sox.KA-POW!Suck it, Ken Jennings!

The answer was in the cards, indeed. The first group of players were named to the Topps All Star Rookie Team as White Sox before eventually coming to the Mets. In the Bizarro version of the quiz, the players were named to the Topps All Star Rookie Team as Mets before eventually going to the White Sox. Congratulations, and thank you for playing. How'd you figure it out? I thought this quiz'd be up here for days and then I'd finally put out the answer.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I dunno. The Topps Rookie trophy is something that comes up on occasion around here, especially since Omir Santos, since a few of youse are cardnerds. The Sox connection had to be part of the puzzle. I thought, "Did a buncha these guys come up the same year?" No, but some close. "Agee, I know, won the RotY. Did a buncha these guys come up and do really well right away? I know Seaver and Koosman did." MLB has no official all-rookie team, but then I thought... the Topps team!I checked Al Weis' stats and saw he put up a respectable .271 batting average and .333 on-base percentage to go along with absolutely no power in his rookie year, I submitted my guess. After I checked to confirm, I doubled back to add some trash talk.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Cardnerd!? I'm a cardnerd! Yay! Excellent quiz. It was right in front of my face and I didn't have a clue.
