batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 When MLB retired Jackie Robinson's uniform #42 on April 15, 1997, 12 players who were then currently wearing #42 were grandfathered in as exceptions to the uni # retirement. Of those 12, [crossout]three[/crossout] four either played for, or would play for the Mets. Who are those [crossout]three[/crossout] four? One guess per post.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 The third one is escaping me, but I think he had his grandfather rights taken from him --- like he switched teams and the new team (Houston, I'm thinking?) wouldn't assign him the old number, and he didn't have the juice to fight for it.
