  • David.

  • Sandy.

  • PDP, perhaps the next GM.

  • Steve Phillips, the GM who drafted and signed him.

  • Jim Duquette, the GM who promoted him to the big leagues.

  • Omar Minaya, the GM who signed him to his last deal, still currently active.

  • The Trust: Fred, Saul, and Jeff, just to make clear that not everything can be fun.

  • Terry, to speak prolifically and poetically about what David means to him personally.

  • Elisa and Rhon Wright, proud parents.

  • His three brothers, to underscore that they are relative failures. For we all are relative failures.

  • Molly Beers, to get the tabloids waggin'.

Basically, I'm looking for about a hundred people on the dais, some real over-the-top stuff...

  • Joe McEwing and Cliff Floyd, early MLB mentors.

  • Piazza, Staub, Mookie, and Seaver, brand ambassadors.

  • Gary, Keith, and Ron, because they need to talk a lot about this day next year. (OE: Not to be a tv snob: Rose and Lewin, too. And Kiner, Ojeda, Burkhardt, Coleman, Alicea, and Jiminez.)

  • Jon Olerud and Steve Henderson, because number five is officially dead as an option for any Met going forward. Bring in Ed Charles, also, and they can have an official Goodbye Five ceremony. Dave Johnson may be otherwise occupied.

  • Michael Bloomberg, Andrew Cuomo, and Chris Christie, come on down. Great day for all your citizens.

  • Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, What'shiskingofqueensname. You guys bring the funny.

  • Cal Ripken, Chipper Jones, Mike Schmidt, George Brett, because great thirdbasemen who stick with one organization their whole careers are cool. Adrian Beltre, not so much.

  • Jeromy Burnitz, his idol in Norfolk.

  • Joey Cora, his first pro manager.

  • Nick Boothe, the college coach he worked out with in high school. Unless there's something creepy about that. Then no.

  • Mike Hampton, who made this day possible. Invite the superintendent of Denver schools, too.

How hard is it to throw these things together?

  • OE: Mr. Met! Duh!

Jose Reyes lives in NY and is a reggaeton singer...he could revise his song "No Hay Amigo" and personalize it a little to reflect the Mets signing David without even offering Jose a "box of chocolates"...if he sang it in Spanish, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Mets brass had no idea what he was signing...

Wayne "Red" Garrett and Pumpsie Green, representing the previous holders of the position and adding a nice holiday color theme.

And who will fly all these people to Nashville?

Ralph Kiner

Chris Rock?.....no way, isn't he a MFY fan now?

Jason Bay, in case the conference runs into a wall.

has he changed his affiliation? I haven't heard/read anything that said that he stopped being a Mets fan and started rooting for the Yanks...

His David Letterman skit "Mets ain't got no money Dave" could have just been for laughs, but he sounded like a downtrodden Mets fan that couldn't understand rooting for the Yanks...

"Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Steve Jobs to win the lottery." - Chris Rock

Top 10 Celebrity Fans of the Mets (April 2012):

5) Chris Rock: Rock, a well-respected comedian, used to rev up the crowds at Shea Stadium by appearing on the centerfield jumbotron to get the chants going of "Let's Go Mets! Let's Go Mets!"

Oh I kid......but, didn't we here on the board give him a hard time before for wearing a MFY hat at a playoff game?

IIRC there was something about him and the MFY.....I could be totally wrong on that.

I'm not always here, so I probably missed it if you did discuss it...I have seen him in an Orioles jersey throwing out the first pitch, but I thought that was more of a publicity thing...With the way that the Mets/Wilpons have handled things in the last few years, I couldn't blame him for rooting for another team...I'm still a Mets fan, but I intend to go see Jose Reyes play for the Blue Jays this season up in Toronto...

I do remember Billy Crystal acting like a Mets fan back in the '86 World Series, and then during the 2000 WS being dressed up as a Yankee fan saying that he was a "life long" Yankee fan (despite saying he was a "life long" Mets fan only 14 years prior to that)...

I showed "Things That David Wright is Wildly Enthusiastic About" to my wife back in the day and she still references the thread any time she sees me looking at the Crane Pool. I think it's her favorite CPF thread.

Wifey Bucket's favorite CPF thread is the one where I quit to spend more time doing stuff.

I would invite the rotting corpses of every Met legend who has gone to the great beyond. Prop those dead bastards up so they can see what a guy with a pulse and a nice inside out swing can do for himself.

This is my wife's favorite thread.

Funny to read my travelogue of our trip to Cooperstown and Bingo with all the image links busted.
