Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Cueto [19-9; 2.78] vs Cain [16-5; 2.79] get the starts for game 1 in the city by the bay.We can call this the George Foster series if even Cincy does have a slight edge in GF HRs: 244 to 4SF drafted George in the 3rd round of the supplemental (January) draft in 1968, then dealt him 3-1/2 years and 129 ML ABs later to Cincy in exchange for Frank Duffy and Vern Geishert
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Wow, Cueto coming out with an injury after retiring just one batter (erstwhile Met Angel Pagan). At one point Pagan called time and Cueto stopped his pitch, mid-delivery. Ron Darling and two white guys I never heard of currently on TBS deliberating on the possibility that this caused some injury.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2012 Author Posted October 6, 2012 Dreadlock whiplash perhaps?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Back spasms, as per Verducci, doing voice-only in-game reportage (which I kinda like). You know, the sort of pains you might get from whipping around super-quick to see a fastball that Brandon Phillips just whacked over your head and out of the park, only without hurting your neck. Y'know, like Matt Cain might do just now.2-0, Redlegs.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Wait, there's that shiny, thick, sentient Verducci hair. Apparently, Cueto's spasms aren't much of a thing; Baker's told our man SI Tom that he may be able to pitch in Game 3 or 4. Meanwhile, the Reds are coping pretty damn well tonight; bearded junkballer Sam LeCure held the fort nicely for a scoreless 1 2/3, and Latos is on now as the closer-starter, cruising so far in the third.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Latos is through the third. He's also a lot more blond than I remembered him, and-- I think-- wouldn't look out of place in a Cobra Kai gi.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 And while we in the east here are paying attention to what's going on in Baltimore, Bronson Arroyo has a 1-hit shutout going on in SF in the 7th4-0 Cincinnati
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Bailey is no-hitting the Giants through 5.2Of course, he's let up a run and isn't winning the game.edit: 30 seconds later, Scutero gets a hit down the line.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Immediately broken up by Scutaro. Middle of the sixth, still tied.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Cincy looked like they were gonna put up a half-dozen runs in the first. If Brandon Phillips doesn't make a greedy baserunning error, maybe they do.Shocked that it's tied.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I listened to the final 1.5 innings of this game on my run via radio and although I hate being the guy who rags on announcers, Berman and Sutcliffe absolutely suck cock. Berman couldn't tell me what the heck happened on the wild pitch or the game-winning hit, and Sutcliffe's a dumb jock who thinks he's still a player. He defends every stupid decision made because "he's a player!" or "'Boch' is an an ex-catcher, you know he knows his way around the bullpen!" and only dares to question the plays once they don't work out. Berman's voice was shot, and the radio feed on ESPN-FM was nearly a minute BEHIND the TV feed, you almost never see that.Meantime the game ends, the other one's already begun. I don;t need a wrapup show and 15 minutes of commercials between. arrghA real disaster.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 I mentioned in another thread that Berman & Sutcliffe (even apart) are my two least favorite announcers working today. I dread just thinking of them working together.Sutcliffe's problem is that he reminds me of a football announcer in that he thinks every single play/pitch/call/decision needs to be analyzed to within an inch of its life.Berman's problem is that he reminds me too much of Chris Berman. The Reds have named Mike Leake to start Game 4 later today (trying to steal a win maybe?) a move that's significant because Leake wasn't on the roster to start the series. They've made room for him by removing Johnny Cueto, a move that requires Cueto not only to sit out the remainder of this round but also the next one should the Reds stay alive. Cueto would be eligible again for a potential Cincy WS roster.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 5-2 San Francisco in the middle of the 5th inning. Our old friend Pagan having a good game, 2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and a walk.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Chris Berman oozed praise all over ex-Met Joaquin Arias late in last night's game, going so far as to insist he was awarding him the unsponsored "making the most of your opportunity" prize on him -- and then giving player of the game to Angel.Good to know some 2010 Mets are keeping busy these days.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I'll bet Juaquin Arias doesn't even remember being a Met.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Not to go all Chris Russo on start times and TV ratings and whatnot, but how can they have a decisive game 5 (featuring a west coast team, mind you) first pitch at 1 PM Eastern? And I know the real answer, that the almighty tv dollar insists the MFYs get the primetime slot. But got that sucks if you are a Giant fan in SF. At the very least, couldn't they have swapped the NL start times, so the Cardinals and Nats would start at 1 instead?
