Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Bring up Harvey. Bring up McHugh. Bring up Wheeler. 'Cause Lord knows this team isn't playing for a playoff spot.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Well fuck if Jason Bay didn't suck we'd never play this goddamn inning. I really think he needs to be hate-released.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Just awful.Starting think some of this is on Sandy. Other teams are trading for relievers. We knew this pen was horrible. It makes no sense to fall out of contention THEN make a deal. He should have brought someone in when they still had a chance.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Losint back to back extra inning games by a combined 25 runs is a tough thing to do.Not for this team though. And special credit needs to be given to the middle of the order who, when presented with a chance to win the game outright without having ANY reliever throw a pitch, failed once again to get a ball to leave the infield.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Five-plus runs in a single extra inning in back-to-back games. That must not have happened to many times before.

I'm not sure what one or two relievers would have done to help this team execute better defensively or offensively.Also... we're NOT going to plunk Bernardina for the shitty slide? That fucking figures.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 We should be addressing other team's bullpens, moving Rauch, Byrdak and Francisco out before its too late.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 The other problem is figuring out who's a good reliever.Y'know who were reasonably good relievers last year? Pedro Beato, Ramon Ramirez, Frank Francisco, and Manny Acosta

Sandy was quiet when he should have done something and now it's too late. Edited July 23, 2012 by Guest

That would have been a good idea of the bullpen was any good but it sucks and now the Mets are stuck with those guys.

That fucking figures.bullpen has been somewhat 'okay' for most of the last two months, it's been the offense and defense. And you can't even clearly say its' the "bad guys" doing it, because Tejada's poor play today was a big contributor defensively. Duda has had 2 xbhs in a month. Ike was nonexistent early. Kirk and Jordany think pitches thrown in Yankee Stadium are in the strike zone. Jordany swung at a _wild pitch_ today. Murphy disappeared for a month as well, as did Thole. You can live with a guy slumping here and there, but not when multiple guys do it and they slump so hard, not even getting cheap dribbler hits or walks.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Left, center, and right should be in a pretty straight platoon at this point. Need to find a catcher to take the lefties also. I'm still open to bringing up the Pascucci to play some first against lefties. Almost everybody should feel on notice right now.

I don't even know if the platoon thing is gonna work. Duda's not hitting anyone. Kirk's not hitting anyone. Torres is doing okay. Bay's not hitting anything. Hairston's doing good but does have some pretty bad AB sometimes and is very feast and famine. Valdespin too. Even shoving Jason Bay into that mess doesn't seem to..make an outfield. Thole's platoon split isn't that bad, except he doesn't walk against lefties. He's got a 800+ OPS both in the last 7, and last 14 days. (But yes, Nickeas is worthless and is inevitably going to get AB because it's catcher and the backups get playing time)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Too late or not, it's not too late for tomorrow's game, or the next one.I don't know if it's going to work, either. Certainty of one's fate is an illusion.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Toss out some 'thoughts from the game'.Star Wars night was a let down compared to last year. The Big Apple Seats are kinda neat. I was on the end seat next to the apple in the 7th row. Jason Bay's loud fly out was about 20 feet directly in front of me. During the second Jason Bay at-bat, they very clearly raised the volume of his walk-up music as the fans started booing. I bought some baby Mets stuff for a baby shower in two weeks. A bib, a onesie, and a bear. (Mets fan and Angels fan) the kid will be living in Philly. The nice usher let us sit (we moved to stand in fair territory, by the right field pole) when most people left after the 9th. I heard too many "When do the Giants kick off?" comments.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Why do they do Star Wars night anyway? When is it going to be F-Troop night?

They've been doing it at a bunch of other parks/places too. My ticket was also a $5 donation. I got a t-shirt with Vader on it that says "Don't underestimate the power of SU2C". Costume contest for kids before hand, winner gets a trip to Orlando.
