Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 On top of signing Wright, how the heck do you figure out what kind of package to offer Dickey?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Plus the team has an option on next season....I predict a four year job around $20 million
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Higher cash, shorter years. Buy out the 2013 option. Sign him for 2013-2015, maybe $25 million for 3 years.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Sounds good to me, but that's not in my purview right now.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I hope RA squeezes them for every last penny they have.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 That that Fred Wilpon guy he knew from Lafayette High School calls him every spring to invite him to Florida and won't leave him alone, so he goes, and he wishes he wasn't so nice about it because he shouldn't have listened to him about investing, oy, what a mess...Oh, you mean Sandy Alderson's headache.

The way he's going I guess it depends on if he tries to milk it for every last drop, or just takes the 'safe' route. I mean, next year is his age 38 season. I'm sure someone would be willing to throw a gazillion at him for one year, but knuckleball or not, 39+ year old men are not the most durable. He still uses his legs to stride, etc.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 I'd like it if they come to an amicable agreement which happily rewards him win by win for exactly the dollar value of the wins he is able to provide.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Throwing the knuckleball, Dickey could pitch for 4 or 5 more years.I say lock that shit up. Even if he falls off of what he's done the past two years, you could have worse back-end starters to go along with Harvey, Wheeler and Niese.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 14, 2012 Author Posted June 14, 2012 Can't imagine his agent asking for less than, say, Oliver Perez. Three years, $39 million. If I was negotiating with him now I'd imagine we'd be around there with perhaps performance clauses taking me to $45 million. If he continues anything like his currently level of success, $45 becomes a floor in two months. If he wins the Cy Young, well, that's Sandy's headache. There's just so little precedent for this. A journeyman pitcher who has a negligible impact (0.2 WAR) through 34, and then becomes one of the top pitchers in the league from 35 onward? There were Hollafamers who had checked out by 34. (Catfish Hunter, f'rinstance.) This freak was just getting started.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 I don't believe you can throw that much money at a guy who hasnt thrown a no-hitter...

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2012 Author Posted June 18, 2012 This is unknowable. Can you imagine the condition of the agent that has stuck with him all these years negotiating one-year minor league deal after one-year minor league deal? He's going to have to have the dollar signs removed from his eyes.
