Only thing between a game we can still win and a blowout loss is Batista.

Well, nice play by Quintanilla gets us outta that with only one run allowed, but damn, that's a big run.

Should we not have saved Hairston for when maybe we have a man on so he can tie the game?

Couldnt Bay have hit there, if they were goin lefty-righty?
Id liked to have saved Hairstons pop for when it could serve us better.

I just realized that's Harper in center. This IS a Davey-managed team.

Kinda. But also, they're kinda losing close road games to the team in first place, which has the best pitching in the damn league by a LOT.

They may have the best pitching ... okay, they do ... but the Mets were lucky to miss Gio and Strasburg this series. Woulda been nice to have Johan make his scheduled start tonight because you'd rather have him pitch against the division leaders than against anyone else. Let's wait and see if there's any more fallout from the no-hitter.

Exactly my thoughts yesterday when they announced how they were gonna shape the rotation. This series is so much more important.

  • Steve Lombardozzi Jr. has terrible taste in walkup music.

  • Bryce Harper is really good. Went one for five but hit everything hard.

  • The Nats hit into a lot of hard outs.

  • Q looked really solid in the field, but I'm not sure if that was an illusion based on how shaky everybody else has been looking.

  • I was hoping to see Bay. What the Hell is wrong with me?

  • If there is such a thing as a reprieve for a day based on the previous day's performance, perhaps Davis played well enough to earn one. But that's a questionable proposition.

  • Would've preferred to see Beato instead of Boidak.

  • If the stadium gun means anything, I was really surprised to see Batista consistently hitting 93-94 on it.

  • Maybe Hef is just one of those bad-beginning guys. I dunno.

  • With that first inning and our defense, we really looked sunk, and I was mildly impressed to be in it at all at the end. I guess that's part of what Terry may be credited with (falsely or not) --- after losing Reyes, we see three middle infielders land on the DL, and they stay with it. Like Murphy trying to recover on a muffed grounder, this team stays with it.

  • Whoever said Terry uses the shift more than most was right. Didn't help much tonight, though.

  • Embarrassing Met Fan, Type #33: Abusive and profane fight-picking crank wearing a Gary Carter jersey, or the jersey of any decent and composed gentlemen. Go with Dykstra or Backman or somebody.

Awful night at the ballpark (other than an excellent meal at Shake Shack). It was over early and there wasn't much hope when 5 through 8 in the lineup is so awful. I agree with Edgy about Beato v Byrdak. I didn't understand using Hairston to lead-off an inning down two runs. I enjoyed the tattooed Mets fan in my aisle who yelled "Omar's Coming!" whenever Quintanillia came up (that's a The Wire reference). Harper's swing is an act of violence (Murphy's swings are like the gentle caressing of a kitten).

(Should I have bulleted these, Edgy-style?)

I'd be shocked if Edgy was wearing a Raiders shirt, would seem to be out of character for him, unless he's trying to act the hard man at the park.

Yea, that's not him. Who did you think it was Ashie?

well, was that you?
