Are you getting the Mets game tomorrow on FOX? The folks at 506.com are again providing coverage maps. Remember that the onerous blackout rule prevents the showing of games on mlb.tv and Extra Inning while FOX is gracing us with a game.

Seems to make sense, except

A. Richmond is an AL-market?
B. Albany, GA?

A. Odd... Richmond usually gets the NL game. I'd understand if they got the SF game as the Richmond Flying Squirrels are the Giants AA affiliate.
B. Perhaps one of the players is from that area. I can't figure that one out either.

Yeah, it's not like GotW would be substantially different if suddenly handed to another network.

money..

i'm okay with them pimping out games of the week and what not, but it seems counter productive to limit your own product in doing so.

Highlights normally show up within a couple of minutes online and on the app..just not on Saturdays. It limits the ability of other teams to start games during Fox's window, messing with what's best for that team and it's fanbase. If a pitcher is pitching a perfect game up against the Fox game (how dare they schedule another game for that time?!) MLB Network can't even show it on their own channel. Fox will usually cut away like they did for Humber, but teams actually watching that game may not want to cut away, particularly not 100% away.

It's just a mess.

But again, if you folks are planning on throwing a party if and when the next contract gets awarded to a different network you're going to be sorely disappointed when the only thing that changes is the number on your dial.

I guess I was including the NFL and American Idol in Fox's failures.

While we're on the subject, though, can't we just have A GAME of the week and not a blackout of every afternoon game on Saturdays all summer long?

But, that's not necessarily FOX's fault...like Joe Buck's smugness is.

Short answer: Money.
Because baseball is much more a local sport than a national one so the networks know that if their game goes up against a local one that fans in cities not involved in the game will opt out of theirs. Hence they offer MLB a check with many more zeros in it if no other broadcast is allowed to compete with the game(s) that they're showing.

And I'm not suggesting you need to love FOX, only to recognize that if some other network out-bids them for the rights the next time the contract comes up then they're certainly going to want a similar arrangement.

Still worth a party if it meant the end of Buck and McCarver.

You might get rid of Buck - although he works so few games as it is (gotta spend all of July & August "preparing" for those all-important NFL exhibition tilts) that FOX just might allow him to do a handful of weekends for another entity.
McCarver's a different story though.
When CBS had the national package they hired McCarver
When ABC had the national package it hired McCarver.
When FOX got the package they hired McCarver.

Don't forget the peacock. He was a Game of the Week guy with NBC before he even joined the Mets back in 1980.
