  1. 1. Ottoneu 12th man - ditch or let it ride?

    • Let him draft
      1
    • abandon him and let someone else try to piece it together during the season
      0
    • abandon him and 'lock' the team until next year

A guy claimed the abandoned Fman team. Do we let him draft, perhaps monopolizing the guys we want because of his higher cash holdings or block/abandon him and just run the league with 11 and an unqualified team until next year?

We can also just block him from the draft temporarily and then let the random riff raff take the team and try to piece it together via free agency. I think that's a poor option though, might as well create a fake fangraphs account to squat the team and maybe try to recruit someone else next year.

or we can tie Fman in a chair in front of a computer. Who's closest to Syracuse?

I'd probably prefer we go with 11; and/or complete our teams first then craft the best possible team of leftovers (at fair/average salaries) for team 12, then proceed with the season.

I suppose someone with 2 computers and a new account could bid along with us but I'm not volunteering for that duty.

I'll create a fake account to grab some players in FA if that's what we decide to do.

If I claim it to a fake account it opens up that account if any CPF member wants to join the league next year.

I feel bad for the random guy that claimed the team, but whatever. screw him right?

I have no problem with the emergency holographic Fman playing with the current resources. If he has an advantage, it's because the rest of us have overbid to this point.

Speak for yourself on the overbidding. :)

Like I said in the other thread, I won't raise a stink either way...but my preference is to proceed with the way we were originally drafting and have Fman's team sit out.

i could alwyas drive myself crazy by winding up m.e.t.b.o.t. for the task. i would have him running off a separate data set from my own, namely espn's fantasy baseball value calculator. in fact, i've already pulled that data. i would have him bid up to the proscribed value for a player, but no higher, and only for players that would help him fill out a legal roster. when it's his turn to nominate a player, i would have him nominate the highest dollar-value player on his sheet in a position that he needs to fill a legal roster. and of course, he would not be able to spend more than he has available to spend.

i would also establish a budget for him so that he doesn't blow his entire budget in the first five picks. basically, i would prevent him from getting, say, six $30 players and tapping his budget, if there were $30 players even left on the board. basically, i could give him budget slots to fill. like, off hte top of my head, three players from $20-25, three players from 15-20, five players from 10-15, so on and so forth. this would need to be worked out still, of course. the above was just a theoretical construct for discussion purposes. and everything i set up for him i would post on teh board for public consumption and maximum transparency.

for sake of discussion, i've got dollar values set for a 12-team league, with 22 hitters and 18 pitchers, $400 budget, 65% spent on hitters. stats are as in our league except pithers' homer allowed replaces HR/9, as that stat is unavailable. it would place him at a slight disdvantage, but it's better than if i were using a typical 5x5 dollar value set.

like i said, i could do this, and it would almost be a fun intellectual exercise. but if we just want to let the team sit idle, i'm good with that too. it would save me a bunch of trouble!

I like that metbot idea.

Later you could write a trade analysis program for him.

it is done. ive got the following bins set up for player salaries:

$bin # slots
30-39 1
25-29 2
20-24 3
15-19 3
10-14 5
7-9 4
5-6 5
3-4 6
1-2 5
0 ($1) 3
-1 ($1) 3

hanley ramirez fills the top bin. there is only one player left on m.e.t.b.o.t.' s data sheet that fits into the 25-29 bin, so that unused slot will move down to the 20-24 range. if m.e.t.b.o.t. is unable to acquire the remaining player he has valued at $25-$29, that wil free up another slot in the $20-$24 range, to a total of 5 slots. this approach will be used throughout the draft.

the bottom two bins are both for $1 players.

m.e.t.b.o.t. will not bid on any players who have a negative value on his spreadsheet.

wait... i'd have to shell out another $10 for this wouldn't i?

no. you can claim abandoned teams for free (we'd time it so I'd click the abandon button while you were around to claim it) m.e.t.b.o.t. would be playing on Fman's dime.

...and the tin shall inherit the abandoned fantasy baseball teams.

m.e.t.b.o.t. has taken the first step of many towards a total robotic takeover, and has assumed control of the clockwork orange and blues.

you can change the team name at the very top of the screen if Fman's human anatomy allusions confuse you.
