A little birdie (actually a pretty solid source) relays the following:

- Coleman not being considered.
- Bit of a disagreement between the team and the station on who to go with.
- Team likes idea of Duquette.
- Keep an eye on Josh Lewin.

That could be amusing in a "You can clearly tell Howie despises this guy" type of way.

Josh Lewin did the second Brian Jordan game in September 2001, the one that sealed the Mets' fate in that inspiring division title run. While I don't blame Lewin for the leading being blown in the ninth inning at Turner Field, I will never forget this tortured bit he did about the Mets standing up for New York, et al, so really they have become "the New York Metaphors".

Perhaps he's improved in ten years.

He used to do Tigers games, but it didn't last very long.

Lewin is not good enough for the job. He did some Orioles games years ago and wouldn't shut up. He was also a cliche maniac. He moved on to Texas and from limited listening, he cut back on the cutsey stuff but he still talks too much. His work on FOX Saturday games was mediocre at best.

He's also the radio voice of the SD Chargers.

I guess I haven't heard enough Lewin to hate him but he strikes me as acceptable. Worst thing about him was revealed to me this morning earlier in this thread.

If he's as big a cliche churner as most online observers say, then, fuck... give me a quiet Wayne.

I don't mind cliches as long as he completely describes what's happening on the field.

Rubin provides this link from 2010:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/texas-rangers/headlines/20101011-Horn-Announcement-timing-strange-in-3177.ece

which contains this:

Lewin sometimes seemed more like a TV variety show host than a play-by-play voice. Sometimes it seemed as if he were spending as much time surfing the Internet for material as he spent watching the game in front of him. Some viewers loved him for that, especially in the dog days of most Rangers summers. Others could never get used to the shtick. He was a lightning rod.

Based on this, he'll enjoy talking about "The Honeymooners" with Howie.

Yes, this could work, that was one of the great things about Rose and Cohen, their ability to chit chat on a range of topics .

Okay, this year, that could be a godsend.

But that he was criticized for being too shticky immediately following the most exciting season to that point in Rangers history... well... let's just say I think I hope he's a transitional guy.

How is it possible that this particular position has, since 2006, attracted nothing but dreck or prospective dreck?

One year deal

BobKlap Hearing #Mets are ready to announce Josh Lewin in the radio booth for 2012, replacing Wayne Hagin. One-year deal.

Rubin:
Wouldn't read too much into Josh Lewin reportedly getting 1-year deal. Don't believe WFAN officially has Mets rights beyond 2012 as of now.

He's right. The Mets might be on ESPN-NY in '13 with the MFYs moving from CBS to FAN.

We hear this every time the contract is up, hopefully not, signal sucks.

It's not like they're going to jettison Howie if they switch is it? Why is Lewin different?

From what I've read, ESPN-NY is going to add an FM signal to help fix the problem with their AM signal.

How would that help?

I really doubt it would help me, as I wouldn't be concerned with the strength of the signal in New York, but with how well it can be heard from a distance.

I rarely listen on the radio anymore (most likely because I spend less time in the car than I used to, and because I have the MLB Extra Innings package) but I'd still hate to lose the clear signal that the Mets get with the 660 spot on the dial.

It would help in the tri-state area as it would be an alternative to the weak AM signal. It wouldn't help any one from out of state because, as you said, we'd lose the clear signal that FAN uses.
