Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 No, really?I thought this was NL only
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 Nah, ottoneu doesn't offer that type of flexibility.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Well had I done any preparation it's all gone to shit now.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 I bailed. Too slow, too painful. Good luck all.

There's still plenty of talent available, and you'll be at a marked spending advantage. Things did start to move more quickly towards the end as spending money started to dry up, but I don't think anybody has more than 12 or 13 players yet. I believe we're continuing on Monday (or was it Tuesday?), and you can probably get some good deals on players (especially pitchers).
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Tuesday at like 8:30 again I think we said. We're most of the way there. We'll have a couple of low-end bidding wars to come, and then probably a lot of nominating guys for $1 and everyone else passing to fill out the roster.
Guest Muddy Chicken Guests Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I'm a friend of metsmarathon and am pretty pumped for this league. The draft last night, although slow, was quite fun. I'm not a Met's fan, but I do hate the Yankees. That's just as good, right?

Guest Muddy Chicken Guests Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Yeah, I'm a big sox fan. I was a little bummed when pedroia went out of my price range, but was pumped when I got Big Papi at a discount.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 8:30 tonight? Is FMan back in, and if not, are his players going back on the market?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 smg58 wrote:8:30 tonight? Guy's clearly going to be at a disadvantage since we already drafted Duda, but I imagine he can cobble together a non-embarrassing team.8:45 I think I said in the email. Clearly if everyone's there we can start. If anyone thinks they are going to be late, or just doesn't care if we start without them? (I mean, you'll only miss a couple of players, many of you don't really need that many)
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 i'm flying solo with minimm tonight. i'm hoping to get him to bed in time for the draft, and hte 8:45 start helps. if i'm not there, start without me. i'm very nervous about hte dynamic hte new player will bring, flush with fman's cash.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Who is this new fellow? My suggestion would be to draft a shitty team for FMan so he can reap the shame of having pussied out of a "keeper" league in 15 minutes.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 just some guy to ostracize. Ottoneu seems to be anti-having less than 12. If we really don't like the guy we can throw him back, but the team would then be available for anyone to claim again.the auction shouldn't b e that big a deal. He's flush with cash but he's not gonna have access to like the top 150 guys or so either.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 the problem is that, flush with cash, he can take all teh remaining good players, quash any bargains, and snatch any prospect. he can afford to outbid all of us on anyone, and there's nothing to lose. mostly though, it's just that its an entirely different variable that's being thrown into the draft equation. he's playing with a different set of rules than the rest of us. not that it's his fault or that there's anything we can do about it, or that it will ultimately matter. hell, i'm sure there are people out there who draft with exactly this strategy - get a few stars and disappear, let everybody overpay for the top of the market, and then load up for bear on the bargains.it causes me great uncertainty. and that i do not like. i'm going to have a hard enough time sneaking bargains pas the lot of you all. but a guy with a full wallet - sheesh!

I mean, if you we think it's really better we can just boot him at 8:30, release his players, let Fman's team just be unqualified all season until someone picks it up again. Maybe that's the way to go.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Personally, if someone wants to pick up the abondoned team, I would rather they do it once the rest of us have our rosters in order. I understand that this would put this potential GM at a severe disadvantage, but I have a feeling that having the second half of a draft/auction with one GM having nearly all of their cash means that it is going to be really hard for the other 11 GMs to find value for the small amount of cash that we have left.I guess I would rather have it be extremely hard for one person than somewhat hard for 11 people.Just my opinion. I'm up for anything.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 yeah. it would be different if someone had chosen to run their draft that way. i think the best would be to retain fman's players for whoever picks up his team after the conclusion of the draft.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 27, 2012 Author Posted March 27, 2012 (edited) I'm feeling a little out of it, so if It's like 8:45 and I'm nowhere to be found/non responsive... Edited March 27, 2012 by Guest
