Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 On a pace to do it on the 18th of September at home against the Phillies.A lot of chances to do it at home coming up with only three road games (Milwaukee, 9/14-16) between the seventh and the 27th. (And let's not pull a Jeter and feign injury if it looks like it's going to land then.)

I know that we've been following it here for a long time, but is Mets fandom at large as engaged in this as we are? I'm not getting that sense, but I could very well be out of step.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 Until G, K & R start to mention on a regular basis once the gap gets down to say single digits, I doubt most of even Met-dom is much aware of this (let's face it, none too impressive) record.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 I believe David's pace has pushed the theoretical record breaking hit into the last home series vs. Pittsburgh.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 METS ALL-TIME HIT LEADERSThrough Games of 9/4/20121. Ed Kranepool 1,4182. DAVID WRIGHT 1,401COUNTDOWN: Krane Minus 172012 GAMES REMAINING: 26In reaching the unmagical 1,400-hit milestone, David extended his second-place lead over Jose Reyes to 100 (now 101).FYI, if Jose was having the same season for the Mets that he's had for the Marlins, the current Met hit record would be 1,452. But that doesn't take into account all the variables, like lineup, ballpark, game situations, the pressure of theoretically signing for a big contract in New York and, most tangibly, the lengths Ed Kranepool would have gone to take Jose out.In David's past 26 games, when it seems he's done next to nothing, he's actually collected 26 hits (batting .271), so at that one game/one hit pace, figure him for Monday night, 9/24, home to Pittsburgh. OTOH, he had a 26-game stretch in April and May when he garnered 40 hits, a pace that if he picked up again all of a sudden would get him to his necessary 17th hit about a week earlier.Or we could just wait and see what happens.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Or we could just wait and see what happens. There sure are a lotta ways to estimate the date of Wright's impending franchise record breaking hit. Here's the formula I've been using all along in this thread:171x/y = zz = Mets game # of record breaking hit (remainders always rounded up, never down);171 = total hits Wright needed to pass Krane at beginning of season;x = Mets games played to date;y = Wright's season hit total, to date. Thus calculated, Wright is on pace to pass Eddie in the Mets 152nd game, at home against the Marlins on Sunday, September 23, 2012. But as you implied, he'll pass Eddie when he passes Eddie.

That's why he only has 7 RBI in the last 28 games (B-R split, I don't feel like counting to 26) but 12 runs scored. (Thanks Ike) He's been on base 34 times though. 5 doubles, 1 HR, 10 walks.
