Technically not on a losing streak due to yesterday's washout. Tim Hudson taking the hill for the Bravos against R.A. Dickey.

Let's confront some reality here: We have to win all three of these games.

I propose we option out Nickeas and activate Armando Benitez.

It's about this date 10 years ago that the mad glorious doomed run of 2001 began, but I always date the start from the MOFo picnic of August 8.

Well, it's not impossible that the Mets play, say 3 games, better than the Braves between Monday and 8/26 when they see them again, but yeah. they basically have to sweep them unless the Braves are going to basically 2007-Mets the rest of the season.

That'd put them 4 losses, 5 games, back with 6 games in hand. If they merely win the series, they'd be 6/7 games back with 6 in hand which would be basically the outer limits of 'controlling their own destiny'.

The Mets were so inspired by their three-game sweep of the Brewers that they went out and lost seven in a row. Then the fun started, rising from 54-68 to 79-74...at which point the MFYs came along, patted Mr. Met on the head and said, "don't worry. little feller, we'll take it from here" and went about saving New York from the terrorists.

At least that's how it looked on HBO.

It'll be interesting to see how Terry plays 'em like we can't afford to lose 'em.

Cuz the thing is, if I wanted the Mets to absolutely win you'd somehow have to convince Wright and Bay not to try too hard.

I have this odd habit of missing the alternate jersey games.

Tonight i'll be at the Staten Island/Brooklyn Cyclones game in SI.

I predict we'll be waiting to get into the Holland Tunnel until this game is over.

I'm 'watching' this one by cellphone at the inlaws. Really in blue joiseys?

Yeah, really. Sweet? Disagree.

* Blue Jerseys are a MUCH better color combo than the black ones.
I don't usually get all into this kind of minutia like y'all do but the contrast is so much cleaner that, if you're going to have an alternate color scheme, THIS should be the one (Spanish name optional).

* Lots of hard-hit outs for the Mets so far. Just about every one 'cept Thole.

* I don't want to say there's a difference in the leagues or anything - but Hudson just went through an entire half-inning during a Jorge Posada AB
(Russell Martin popped out with two-on and one-out ... switched channels to see first pitch of inning in Met game ... turned back after third out in time to see Dumbo-ears K on full count)

CAN'TSTANDYA!

Re: the shirts-- what FK said. If there must be marketing ploys, make 'em pop. The OG colors, sans dropshadow (but with thin white outline), do just that.

Nice pick by SugarPants ends the 4th, stranding the leadoff doubler Freeman.

SP appears to be eschewing the sidearm throws; good for him, good for all.

Granted, they got Bourn at the deadline. But when the hell did the rest of the Brave OF get so glovely?

My eyes deceived me. He's still slinging.

Royota seems to be not very good.

I am not optimistic about a comeback.

Pagan and Bay are such great hitters that they don't need to work the pitcher so they both swing at the first pitch? Idiots.

Not only that, but off a guy who walked the first hitter and was all over the place to the second before serving up a (fast) meatball.

Pagan is woefully undisciplined at the plate. He is the hitting equivalent of Murphy's fielding.
