They were 6.5 games ahead in first place then. They swept Philly right after that to go to 9.5 games up.

That's right around the time people started realizing that the Mets were actually good, but they weren't a pick to make the playoffs before then.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Yeah, I was pretty high on them after they started out 10-2. YMMV.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 It was plainly obvious the Mets were a playoff pick long before that sweep. Tons of people here and elsewhere picked the Mets to make the playoffs. I personally picked the Mets to win 97 games that year. What that sweep (and the subsequent one of Philly) did was remove all doubt that the Mets would make the playoffs.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 Maybe if you jumpy bastards had let me start an IGT streak earlier this season we'd still have Beltran. Having said that, YOU'RE WELCOME.Fman now 4-0 on the ol' IGT wagon. And away we go!I got to listen to the first two innings on my phone and the last one in the car, missed most of the hitting. The WP loomed large when it happened and bigger still when Votto went yard.KTE will be posted in the morning.
