I do hope he's to be known as "Downtown" Gary Brown

Gulp.

Just dropped $100 on four ticks to see him on Friday, too.

Brown looks like an eighth-grader who gets his milk money stolen.

More from Toby Hyde:

I have not seen Gary Brown, the Giants first round pick out of Cal State Fullerton in 2010, but if the Mets are doing a deal with San Francisco, the 22-year old is easily target #1. Hes hit .317/.386/.466 with 24 doubles, six triples and eight homers with 39 stolen bases in 95 games for San Jose in the California League. Yes, its a hitters league, but San Jose has the most pitcher-friendly ballpark on the circuit. Bottom line: a premium defender in center with speed, average and a little pop. Yes, please.

Brown and Nimmo--2/3ds of the Mets OF of the future.

#Mets are expected to get Gary Brown and, most likely, two other players in return for Beltran. #Giants

Intrigue:

Buster_ESPN Buster Olney
The Giants are expected to give up pitcher Zach Wheeler as the centerpiece of the Beltran trade.#trades

I'm chuffed I think, seems to be plenty of positive reaction going around about the trade from a Mets perspective .

I'm taking "Heyman" out of the thread title, because he's a doosh and this seems to go beyond him anyway; don't want him in there getting credit when we archive this.

I'd be stunned if Bungarner is any part of this.

But, only a timely basis, John Sickels was nice enough to have recently complete his mid-season review for his list of Giants prospects.
The rank and grade for each are John's pre-season opinions and then he gives an update based on the half-season since he made them.

2) Gary Brown, OF, Grade B:
Hitting .313/.382/.469 with 39 steals for High-A San Jose, drawing raves for speed and defense. Has a few rough edges but overall I'm impressed, and pre-season concerns I had about his bat have been eased.

3) Zack Wheeler, RHP, Grade B:
3.70 ERA with 95/46 K/BB in 83 innings for San Jose, 64 hits, 1.29 GO/AO. K/IP and H/IP remain excellent, reflect plus stuff, still needs to sharpen command.

Wheeler just turned 21 in May; Brown will be 23 in September

remainder of list

Now just Wheeler, not Brown.

The Giants are a good landing spot for Beltran, if this holds. Glad he'll have nice scenery on the west coast before signing a two-year deal with the Mets in the offseason.

Plus he gets to plant the bug in the ear of guys like Posey and Cain about how fuckin' awesome it is playing in Queens.

actually he merely says someone said to pay at tention to those names.

so basically he's just listing Giants prospects.

Problem is, i could see Beltran liking SF, and staying there.

I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping for Texas since he's already left that state once.

...Kevin Boss AND Mathias Kiwanuka...

I don't follow pro football much but don't these guys play for the NY Giants?

sorry, this:

I'm told to pay attention to two Giants prospect names: LHP Eric Surkamp and OF Francisco Peguero.

Surkamp: curveballing lefty with no heat but a lot of strikeouts. Produced nicely at AA this year. Loves America.

If Barry Zito can make a career on that, that so can Surkamp. Not a Hot 100 prospect, though.

Not for nothing but I'd be more excited to get a hitter than a pitcher for Belty, even if this Wheeler dude is the shitzzz

Per Sickels:

4) Francisco Peguero, OF, Grade B-:
Late start due to knee injury, hit .324/.387/.441 in 16 games for (A+) San Jose, .276/.291/.439 win 25 games for Double-A Richmond. Speed/power potential remains impressive, still raw with the strike zone.

12) Eric Surkamp, LHP, Grade C+:
2.05 ERA, 118/32 K/BB in 101 innings for (AA) Richmond, 84 hits. Excellent season in all respects, transition to Double-A very successful.
