O'Connor called up to take place of tendinitis-stricken Pedro (right elbow).

Fuck, huh?

Here we were, thinking how good Beato is and how lucky we are to have him... that's what we get for being positive.

Was it was going to be you, but with the slit wrists, we may have to see if Ollie's available.

Until 20 or so years ago, the answer would generally have been "the starting pitcher".

Hope it's brief, but strange that it's happened to the Rule 5 guy who you'd think you'd want to hide on the DL but is actually your linchpin.

Think Pedro experienced discomfort schlepping home his Schaefer award?

Perhaps not coincidentally coming off his 3-inning appearance Sunday night (he did throw 60 innings in 43 appearances last season).
Also helps explain why he apparently wasn't considered for use last night - not that I thought Buchholz in that spot was a bad move.

Just wish we called up a batsmith.

With Bay coming back after one more game (unless the Mrs. defies science and pops out another kid), Pagan sked to return on Saturday (barring setbacks), and Beltran playing everyday (and hitting) there's no point in having Martinez up here to sit on the bench. I want to see him get at least a half year of healthy and productive AAA ball under his belt [this is where FMan makes a joke about balls under belts] before seeing him up again.

Beato has the second longest streak of scoreless innings at the start of a Mets career. Before we get too excited, the record is held by Jack DiLauro.

How long has he been married?

And is he taking paternity leave?

BTW, Bay: 2-for-7 lifetime against Lincecum; 1-for-4, 2 walks as a Met; DNP last night after Garrett David was born.

He has hit well (in small sample sizes) against Mota, Wilson and Affeldt, three relievers the Mets have faced in this series; DNP last night.

Went 3-for-6 last year against Sanchez, today's starter; he is supposed to be back.
