metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 DamnBY ANDY MARTINOFrom the Mets:Righthanded pitcher Jenrry Mejia was examined today by Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek and was found to have a complete MCL tear of the right elbow. Mejia underwent an MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. Surgical treatment has been recommended, but Mejia is expected to seek a second opinion. In his last start for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League on April 29, he left after 4.0 innings with discomfort and was flown to New York to be examined. In five starts for the Bisons, Mejia was 1-2 with a 2.86 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 28.1 innings. Mejia went 0-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 33 games, three starts for New York in 2010.that's a Tommy John fix right?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Tommy John's for the ulnar collateral ligament. But, yeah, same neighborhood.Better that than a shoulder problem... but damn. Cross your fingers and whisper "Josh Johnson, Josh Johnson."
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Yeah, there's no MCL in the elbow.Sucky news.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 So, we're talking knee? (I know human anatomy like I know Pakistani geography.)That's certainly not good news, but it's a relief, relative to the elbow, right?
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 No, I think they mean the UCL. But there's a whole lot of news sources just copy and pasting the MCL in the elbow thing.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Jennry Mejia will need Tommy John. Mets reporting injury as MCL -- same ligament, different nomenclature. UCL, MCL, same thing.Per tweets
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Never seen it called the MCL before. Odd. Here's wikipedia: The medial collateral ligament of the knee is one of the four major ligaments of the knee. From From Miriam Webster's medical dictionary:Main Entry: medial collateral ligamentFunction: noun1 : a ligament that connects the medial epicondyle of the femur with the medial condyle and medial surface of the tibia and that helps to stabilize the knee by preventing lateral dislocationcalled also MCL, tibial collateral ligament; compare lateral collateral ligament2 : ulnar collateral ligamentSo I guess it could be called the MCL. Learn something new everyday (I still think it should be called the UCL).
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Same here. Huh.'Zat mean I can throw with mah feet?

(leaving out Warthen? dunno why)I have a hard time believing his reliever work last year led to this.
