This is to remind me not to join next year, yes I suck but there is absolutely no fun in this league, and that in no way means you guys , you're all great craic.....if I could only do the live draft then leave I would....

perhaps you could partner up with someone who wants to play but cant make the draft time, i'm sure they'd rather have you than auto-draft.

One thing is not playing a "keeper" league sorta hammers the fun out of it when you're in the second division. There's something to be said for the ease of running this one but might be more fun to do the whole auction draft/ build for the future kinda thing.

Any interest in something like that?

I look at my team and yeah it has some holes that need filling but damn if there is anybody out there to pick up.Do I spend an hour a night pouring over charts?, no I don't but I make sure my pitching is set and my players....some of these guys available have like five at bats.

What would you do with my team?

totally. with a LIVE in-person rotisserie-style auction.

its the problem with a 13-team/NL-only/4-OFer league. if you have an injury, or get unlucky, or make a mistake in the draft, you are stuck playing part-time guys... or guys who hardly play at all!

I agree. i don't like that either. If a team has an injury, they bring in somebody to fill the slot... they don't just abandon the position! While i understand wanting to tighten things up a little (how competitive can a league be if there are all-stars on the waiver wire?), this league goes too far.

Perhaps a trade?

I'll test the trade waters when I get home , damned IS people at work have blocked fantasy baseball.

I haven't ever played in the CPF league before but if you're planning on switching to a new format next year and need players, let me know...

same with gwreck. I've missed out on these leagues here, but i'd be up for a serious league.

If we're going to stay NL-only, we should cut an OF spot and 2 or 3 bench spots so more players are available as FAs.

I recommend a switch to ESPN. The interface is far superior to Yahoo!

I've never liked most of the other formats, but I agree on cutting an OF spot. not enough players out there. There are like 7 guys that aren't on teams and they get 2-3 AB a week.

Bump.

Anyone ready to take charge of this?

As discussed above, who's on board with a "keeper" style league, and live auction draft?

i like both those ideas, but wouldn't a "live" draft require an in-person meeting (which penalizes our out-of-town participants)? And keeper leagues require an optimism about our continued existence as a species (or even a CPF subset of our species) that i'm not sure i share.

so you're saying I shouldn't really worry about trying to lose weight for the future? gotcha.

I'm good with the keeper league idea. I don't think we have to do a live draft do we? It would certainly help with the randomness I felt like was inherent with trying to guess which fringe guys were going to get playing time if someone got hurt last year since we pretty much had every active player on the rosters.

I think in order to do an auction you'd wanna at least be at your computer, yeah? In person is fun but I could see the logistic issues.

although a couple of years ago they did invent this thing called conferences calls.

I'm cool with a keeper league. Since I don't think we've ever had a draft where everybody could get to their computer at the same time, I don't see how getting everybody into the same real room at the same time is feasible. I've never tried auction style, but would be willing.

I wouldn't want to go Auction unless its in-person, if its online whoever misses the draft isn't going to like the results.

You can use any site you want really, if Yahoo won't carry things over we can just post the keepers here and the commish can enter them pre-draft next year.

I like CBS, I've heard good things about ESPN too.

I'm cool with the keeper idea, but you need a lot more rules going in (who can you keep, for how many years, are there penalties), most of all you run into arguments surrounding keeper trades (or, as the contender not being helped will call them, "Dump Deals") that are better regulated ahead of time.

and who here doesn't love a good argument?

well, we probably have some time, still like 2.5 months until freaking season starts.

Looking forward to another season... but again, consider ESPN or even CBS... anything but Yahoo!

Posted

Well, since I already run a local 14 team keeper league here in town I won't be taking up management of another one, thanks.

Yahoo does have keeper league options. I've preferred them for many years to ESPN's league management, though I'll admit I don't know CBS. They were a for-pay service for the longest time.

I'd be up for playing again in 2012, and if you want someone to set up a free Yahoo site league I can do it as I did the last few years. I am also fine with cutting the number of active slots to make it easier to find talent on the waiver wire.

I'm ok with that for $10.
