Came in a 7-0 game vs. nats with two bequeathed runners via Beato.

Next two guys hit homers.

Also a walk and a single, but avoided anything more.

Bad.

Nickeas is also down to .100 after going 0-4 against Atlanta.

Felt bad for Ollie there, I know that puts me in like a .073%
group of Mets' fans. They need to cut bait next roster cut,
like they did with Castillo the other day.

So, how was the rest of the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

I'm with you. He probably won't pitch again unless in some odd twist he accepts a minor league assignment though, so maybe people can stop hating and start rooting for this team.

I am a big Ollie fan and am saddened and disappointed by his evident inability to be an effective big league pitcher. I wish for his sake and the team's sake he could get his stuff back. Yeah, he should be cut, but I'm not going to be snarky and ****y about it like so many Mets "fans" who take such glee in trashing one of their own.

Tonight's replay of the game omitted Ollie's inauspicious outing.

I'm not full of glee.

But there are plenty for whom I feel worse.

That's kind of disturbing, you know Ollie will be all over the papers tmw.

I feel bad for myself. I feel bad that I'm not the one in seven billion people that signs a $36 million contract when I'm 27 years old to pitch for the New York Mets.

Ollie hasn't been right since the day he got married , you could look it up if you wanted but trust me on that.

Perez should have been Castillo's travel buddy.

Yeah, he's sucking, can't get it together, and isn't effective, but releasing Ollie(or anyone) makes the Mets 0% better for 2011, and that's the ultimate goal.

As I watched those homers interfere with traffic over Cape Canaveral, I hoped I heard the sound of a bandage being ripped off in one quick swipe. Ollie will be better off, the Mets will be better off. This is going on three years of utter ineffectiveness. I was entertaining notions, in my post-Castillo satisfaction, that Ollie still has talent, potential, a track record. The Nationals' pinch-hitting of righties against our potential lefty specialist dashed all that.

Give me Byrdak. Give me O'Connor. Give me Misch. Whoever emerges as a lefty in the pen looms as a better option.

I'm not sure that I'd be the over on Misch being better than Perez, but he's run out of time to make/recover that potential and talent to be effective here.

Those righties:

1) Jeff Frazier, AAAA OF, career .276/.327/.424 in the minors.
2) Brian Bixler, AAAA SS, 42 career HRs in 3200+ PAs in the minors.

You're all a bunch of hypocrites -- if Ollie was Hispanic everybody would be wishing for him to be cut.

OE: I nominate the above for the "Mets Reference Hell" list -- speaking of which, I think the MRH thread needs an update (I'm bursting with fresh ideas).

I don't know about everybody, but there's been a passionate movement to release him for a long time now.

You know, trying to dicuss whether certain players have gotten fair shakes from their team's fan base doesn't mean everybody is accused of having Klan costumes or anything.

I realize that -- it's probably not the best idea to quote me on stuff when I being stupid.

I'm not sure Misch has done anything not to warrant him getting the nod ahead of Ollie.

But cutting Ollie without exploring other solutions is just profligate. If I can suggest but one, put him down for extended ST, and then send him to the Jacket's clinic. With impending free agency looming, I'm sure he could be persuaded that it's in everybody's best interest.

It's not like a pitcher losing it before 30 and then finding it again, is without precedent. I have the utmost faith that current regime understands this.

Yeah, me know. I should have made that point elsewhere and elsewise. Re-reading now, it looks like I was trying to hammer it in particular at you and I wasn't. Sorry about that.

Is anyone here going to be upset when/if Ollie leaves?

Depends on how he leaves.
If he can show enough so that he either doesn't have to leave (he can be productive in some role for the Mets), or if he can be traded for a productive player, I'd be ok with that.
If he were to just be released, I'd be upset over the waste of resources that will yield nothing in return this year.
Nothing against Ollie personally. I think in Accounting they call it opportunity cost.

Sunk cost = not being able to recoup a players salary because he has no value.

Opportunity cost = not letting a more productive player take ollie's spot on the roster.

Can't say I'll be upset , it's been coming it seems forever so any shock is gone. All signs point towards an early tomorrow morning release.
