While most of the CPF are off eating shortcakes and drinking daiquiris together, there is baseball bidness going on today & important shit to discuss.

Steve Popper (the guy from Blues Traveler?) says via Twitter that the bats are going off & Ollie is pitching for his Met life in front of a hostile, booing St. Loosy crowd. Booing, people? In spring training? Get the fuck over yourselves.

Castillo, Thole, and Jerry/Scott Hairston Jr. with 2 hits a piece. Pagan has 3 ribbies.

Ollie, amidst the boos, relieves Misch and gets him out of an ugly jam with some clutch loogying.

"BOOOOOOOO!!!!!'

Ollie 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K.

Nice game, kid.

Ollie hits 86 on gun and gets Descalso on pop to Castillo. Inning over and Ollie gives the big hop over the third base line.

2nd base tryout getting some action as Justin Turner drives in Hu. Mets 2bman are 3-4 with 2 runs and 2 ribs today.

Luis Hernandez sez, 'Don't forget me, bro!' & has double, 2 RBI, and a run scored as DH.

Stuff, people. It's happening everywhere.

Seriously, I've yet to watch any spring training baseball on TV. I need a night game.

Tired on a Sunday morning??? Life as a parent lol.

Rerun at 7 on SNY

Hairston hit two bombs...Thinking a Beltran/Hairston platoon dingy.

I haven't watched any either, although I've had the opportunity. I'm surprisingly disinterested. I am very much looking forward to watching the April 1 game. (My wife will be visiting a friend that evening, and she's bringing the kids with her. I'll either settle down in front of the TV with a corned beef hoagie, or I'll throw a Charlie Sheen-type party. I'll have to firm up my plans over the next couple of weeks.)

The home teams are beating the piss out of the awayboys this week. It speaks to bus-lag, but more specifically to the Marianoization of Spring Training, with vets getting more and more juice to excuse themselves from road trips, giving visting teams third-rate rosters to fight wth. (They used to at least get second-rate ones.)

The secondbase competition was seriously joined in earnest:
[list:becj080a][*:becj080a]Castillo: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 RS[/*:m:becj080a]
[*:becj080a]Harris: 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI (w/2 out)[/*:m:becj080a]
[*:becj080a]Hernandez: 2-2, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 1 LoB[/*:m:becj080a]
[*:becj080a]Hu: 2-2, 2 RS[/*:m:becj080a]
[*:becj080a]Turner: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 RS, 1 LoB[/*:m:becj080a][/list:u:becj080a]

And, on the flip side:
[list:becj080a][*:becj080a]Russ Adams: 0-2, SO, 4 LoB[/*:m:becj080a][/list:u:becj080a]

Not sure what to conclude there, considering the Cardinal pitchers, but I bet Emaus and Murphy are pissed they didn't get their swings in today.

I've had the opportunity to watch but haven't either. Watching Spring Training is a bit like going to a whorehouse; it provides some relief after long abstinence, but it's not very meaningful and there's always something better on the horizon.

  • Castillo: 2-3, 1 RBI, 1 RS
  • Harris: 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI (w/2 out)
  • Hernandez: 2-2, 3B, 2 RBI, 2 RS, 1 LoB
  • Hu: 2-2, 2 RS
  • Turner: 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 RS, 1 LoB

The secondbase competition was seriously joined in earnest:

Since Andy Martino beat-out John Harper for the Hernandez to 2B "scoop", I predict Harper's new shtick will be Hairston to 2B. Wait for it: "he has Major League experience at second", "will rival Uggla as the NL East's most dangerous slugging 2nd baseman" and "what's 30 errors a season if you can hit like a corner outfielder".
