Now I'm just reiterating my overthinking istead of working. semantics really...Basically was just wondering if it's really worth trying to build up Johan's arm strength to 100 pitches for a handful of starts.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 He can start and pitch like spring training, 30-40-50.... And he'll stay on schedule, disrupting neither him nor the team.

Team officials arranged for corner infielder/outfielder Nick Evans to fly to Los Angeles from Triple-A Buffalo, multiple team sources told ESPNNewYork.com.Reyes strained his left hamstring Saturday against the Yankees. After taking ground balls and working on a stationary bicycle and treadmill earlier this week, Reyes was unable to do any physical activity on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium, the shortstop said. A team official said a firm decision to place Reyes on the disabled list would not be made until Reyes arrives at the ballpark Thursday and is unable to run, which is the expected scenario."I didn't do anything today. ... Probably tomorrow I don't do anything, either," Reyes said after Wednesday's 5-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets had been inclined to play with a short bench this week and keep Reyes on the active roster if doctors believed there was a reasonable chance the spark plug would be healthy for the first series following the All-Star break, against the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. Once Reyes is placed on the disabled list, he would be ineligible for that July 15-17 series."We have to see what is going to be the best-case scenario for me," said Reyes, who leads the majors with a .354 average. "If I have to go (to the DL), if I really need to go, I have to do it."
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Now we are up to July 18. I thought this was a day to day injury. I hope this does not snowball.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Jeter would never accept going on the DL for such a thing.......Reyes is not a winner.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Crudbuckets. The Mets are going to need another shortstop before this is all over.

(to followup on seawolf17's point)
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 But Jeter is getting his hits and apparently that's all that counts.

Maybe that's Luis Hernandez, I don't know. But I'm not sure how often they can keep running the same guys out there.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Valdespin? nah, probably don't want to start his ML time.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I don't care a whit about ML time and arbitration clocks and the like, but you want somebody who is already there defensively, and Valdespin is still learning shortstop.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 DL today various twatters are saying" Mets wanna play it safe"
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 metirish wrote:DL today various twatters are saying" Mets wanna play it safe"Perhaps the right move, was seeming inevitable anyway. I'll believe a timetable after he starts running. some random doc saying 3 weeks before the Mets get together and make a plan is worthless.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Turner was targeted for a swingman-type position, so would you really need a shortstop to replace Reyes on the roster?Lutz, anyone?

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 OK..Enrique Rojas of ESPN says Reyes will be out 3 weeks. How did we go from day to day to 3 weeks. I mean wtf??
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 I can't count how many times day-to-day has turned into week-to-week.Ike Davis and David Wright started out day-to-day too, as I recall.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Happens often enough. Nobody should be shocked. And yeah, I think it would behoove the Mets to peel their eyes for shortstop options. As of the last few days, the backup has been Willie Harris or somesuch. Let's not get caught with our pants down or ride poor Tejada until he drops, to mix a metaphor.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Well, I'm wearing my blue and purple shades today so I see this as allowing Reyes more time to negotiate and sign his next Mets contract.

They didn't DL him for the first game because he wanted that second opinion, but Terry wouldn't even pinch hit him. I do think Davis was, but that turned into "2 weeks off" real fast when he couldn't run and still felt pain.Dickey's been "day to day" and even "will miss his next start" a couple of times this season but hasn't missed a beat. (just for the "everything always gets worse" crowd) Capuano too. (funny, the old guy and the 2-TJ guy have bounced back from aches and pains pretty well) Turner hurt his thumb and didn't require DL time/it didn't fall off. Beltran experienced a set back (way back in Spring Training) and yet showed up right on time.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2011 Posted July 7, 2011 Jose just said himself in the pregame "I pulled a hamstring." So the strain was a lie?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 And in St Louis, Albert Pujols is told eight weeks and is somehow back after four.

Someone must have asked this of Alderson right? Maybe way back when they sent Hu away?
