Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Or even if I'm some other guy in charge of this team, I'd be doing minor transactions every day. Giving Mookie a new uniform number, releasing Dusty Ryan, inviting Josh Satin to camp, re-signing Dusty Ryan, trading Harry Chiti for himself --- anything to get something in the stream besides the lawsuits and the team's financial situation. Grievous stuff.Pitchers and catchers two weeks away.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Well you start by dumping Luis Castillo to get Mookie his number back.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Start by giving Jose Reyes $90 million.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Oh how Fred wishes for Spring Training and a Karin Garcia and Shane Spencer pissing and fighting in the parking lot of the pizza joint in PSL.

Teamwork!
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 If I'm Sandy Alderson, I let the reporters get distracted by this all they want, and politely ignore them while doing the best job I can to get the team to win some games. And tell my manager and players to do likewise.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Hey, Grant Roberts, get your bong, we need you!

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 No, maybe not. But it'd be nice if we had something to talk about. Baseball.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I wish Sandy had gone after Justin Duchscherer
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I might call Minnesota about Liriano.http://mlb-facts-and-rumors.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/22297882/27466435
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 If I'm Sandy Alderson, I don't pay any home expenses until I'm sure my paycheck clears.Oh, then I'd call about Liriano.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I might call Minnesota about Liriano, but I sure-as-hell wouldn't expect to find a match, deal-wise.But then, as Alderson, I probably wouldn't be as willing to trade Jose Reyes.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It seems the Twinkies feel his 4.3 Million is high and he is a 2012 FA.A match??? The Twins are pitching rich and have two youngun's Brian Deunsing and true Rookie highly touted Kyle Gibson. It would have to be bats so how about Fernando Martinez and Josh Satin? That Heyman tweet yesterday about Reyes was frightening. The Mets want to see him healthy for a year and then maybe talk extension. That strategy probably won't keep Jose as a Mets beyond 2011.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 If I'm Sandy Alderson, "Fernando Martinez and Josh Satin" is a trade offer I scribble on my office notepad after several Shandy Aldersons* and ultimately toss in my "USMC" trashcan, because it's so paltry as to get you laughed out of the room... in Minnesota. (And they're polite in Minnesota.)Think about what got the Mets Santana. Then think about what that offer would have been if he were three years younger at the time of the deal, and it wasn't contingent on his signing a gargantuan extension. (The presumed "injury discount" from his elbow issues is more than outstripped by the cheap one-year contract he's on, no?)*Beer, ginger beer, 2 oz. of Corps gumption, and a twist of lemon. It's pragmatically refreshing.

(The presumed "injury discount" from his elbow issues is more than outstripped by the cheap one-year contract he's on, no?)Liriano posted a 3.62 ERA with a career high 201 K's in a career high 191 IP last year. Johan had five seasons in Minnesota with more IP than that, more K's than that, a lower WHIP by at least 0.2, and a lower ERA (below 3 in four of those seasons). Liriano certainly has value and upside, but you can't compare their track records. And that's before considering the injury issues.Part of me says you have to kick the tires on somebody like Liriano, but part of me is wondering if the Twins know something we don't and are looking to sell high while they can.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 The long-play version of what I'd written had a few more conditions/conditions-to-conditions stuffed in there; I sacrificed a little accuracy to keep the point intact-- that they're seeking much more than Martinez-Satin (or, hell, -Flores-Mejia) to move him. He's significantly less accomplished than Santana, and he's got that nettlesome injury history. He's also younger and cheaper, and won't require enough money to buy the Pirates alongside what players go in trade JUST to make it happen. Mind you, I'm not advocating that we-- as Sandy Aldersons-- go get him. I'm just saying... the asking price will be higher than a let's-give-this-a-try pupu prospect platter.
