Patrick Theodore Joseph Misch

Pos: SP, RP; BR-TL (very rare)

Born: August 18, 1981 in Northbrook, Illinois. (He'll be age 29 in 2011.) On that day, the soon-to-strike Mets lost to Montreal, 5-3, despite Lee Mazzilli showing signs of turning around his crap start with two doubles, and Mike Jorgenson pinch-homering in the ninth.

Acquired: Selected off waivers from the Giants June 5, 2009.

Wife: Teresa. I can't find a photo, but her dad is a golf pro, which is probably like hitting the jackpot for a baseball player.

Random Made-Up Nickname: I dunno. "The Shuttler," maybe.

Namesakes: I couldn't find any, but while looking, I found a shot of this guy:

Best Day in 2010: On October 1, Pat kicked copious amounts of National ass, giving up only four baserunners while fanning ten, pitchign one-run ball. You know Jerry must've attempted three or four bunts and spent time in between innings dreaming of bunts to come, but the victory that day went to Hisanori Takahashi when Josh Thole hit a walkoff homer (the third Mets catcher to do so in 2010) in the bottom of the tenth. That'll keep Pat out of the Hall of Fame. Pity.

Jerry pitched him again two-days later in that extra-inning puke show that ended the season.

Last Word: The Mets have signed a fistful of better alternatives to compete for the roll of lefthanded specialist. (Pat doesn't tend to put up great anti-lefty splits.) So he's going for the long-man/swing-man role, and is out of options. Looks like he's got to hold off Boof Bonser and maybe Oliver Perez. He may look disposable at first glance, but that strikeout/walk ratio is nothing to sneeze at.

What do you expect of Pat Misch in 2011?

He has the same initials at Pat Mahomes, so I'll use Mahomes as a basis for my prediction. I'll take a little 1999 and a little 2000: 53 games, 94 innings, 5 starts, and a 3.68 ERA. (The ERA is from 1999, the other numbers are from 2000.)

he'll beat out Ollie and become the long man in the pen, with occasional situational lefty apperances. with a few spot starts throughout the season when capuano and young go down for minor injuries and dead arms to niese and pelfrey, he'll find himself a small handful of starts.

43 G
5 GS
3-5
4.05 ERA
5.5 K/9IP

He has a decent shot of making the team as a reliever, and he'll probably see a handful of starts as well. His low walk rate will keep his numbers respectable, if uninspiring.

Capuano, Young and Gee are all in the Misch for the 4th-5th starting slots and the long-man position, right?

Pat Figsch.

And Perez, until he isn't. And Bonser. But Capuano and Young have to be considered the favorites for the rotation. Which means Misch must be the favorite for the long man slot.

Perez gets the 12th man slot, and they end up losing Misch on waivers. Then, in April, Collins kneecaps Perez with a 7-iron and they bring up Mejia. Mejia gets overextended by our interim manager, Hojo (They finally find a slot for him, so he doesn't have to give out handtowels in the men's room anymore), and blows out his arm. They then trade a top prospect to Seattle for... Misch.

ladies and gentlemen, your 2011 Mets!
