Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I bet Emaus gets a lower number if he makes the team. And hopefully Mookie gets number 1 once Castillo leaves.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I hope that Hu becomes a Hall of Famer but until then, I still don't like seeing anybody but Keith wearing #17.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I say it's about time we reissued no. 8. I wonder if Charlie's departure will free that one up.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 WILSON 53 just looks stupid. Stop being a dick, Luis.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Let's use honey instead of vinegar, floodiing the internet with essays of how handsome Luis would look in 11.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 And absolutely dashing in red pinstripes!

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Because he needs the ghost of Matsui following him around.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 This is an insult to Del Unser.

Now, conspiracy theory time..did Keith call up the Mets and bitch about this? Did someone else? Did they mistakenly give out 17 because the guys giving out the numbers might not be as well versed in Mets lore yet? They've had no qualms giving it to chum like Tatis, so why take it away unless... they're taking it away....forever?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 All will be revealed in the fullness of blog.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I can't believe they already gave Kevin McReynolds' number away.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I would vote "no" on retiring Keith's number, but of all the non-retired numbers, 17 is easily the most deserving. I'd start issuing number 8 to every journeyman who comes along. No way should Gary's number be retired. Sure, he's in the Hall, but he had one great year and one pretty good one as a Met, and three years of decline.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Thanks for the mention on MBTN bucket.Sucks to be Arroyo .......

Plus I think that Keith's regard as a figure in Met history is only growing with his introduction to a new generation through TV, Seinfeld appearances, etc.I am still not in favor of retiting 17 because it'd open up such a pandora's box, but perhaps they are getting the message to be gentle with it.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 What about instead of just retiring 17, they wait a bit ,and retire it but make the 1 a microphone? (And hey, give the 7 a mustache while we're at it. Nothing wrong with being quirky.) After all, he's still contributing to the team. And there were times the last couple of years where I thought he might've helped Mets hitters more than HoJo..

Hu at the plate, with the scoreboard flashing WALK behind him and captioned "Hu's on First" maybe?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Both incredibly cool in its minimalism and pretty shoddy craftsmanship if it was intended as a commemorative jersey for Jets legend Mickey Shuler. Four letters fell off!
