I believe that had K-Rod not pitched in the game immediately following the incident, the arbitrator would have relieved the Mets from paying the remainder of K-Rod's 2010 salary. No brainer slam dunk. K-Rod still might've forfeited the rest of his 2010 salary had the two sides gone to arbitration, but K-rod pitching the day after the fight gave the Union an opening to present medical evidence demonstrating that K-Rod could not have sustained a season ending injury from the brawl.

I suppose this all isn't over yet as the possibility of conviction of a crime and jail time hangs over his head, perhaps setting up a scenario of contract violation and/or future suspensions without pay.

A niggling issue, but he didn't pitch the day after the fight. He spent the day after the fight in the pokey at Shea during a day game, before being arraigned. He then served a two-game suspension, and appeared again on August 14.

But I don't know what the issue is. Had he not pitched, the outcome would have been the same as it actually now is?

I don't agree with it being ridiculous. I thought it was a smart move on Jerry's part to just get him in a game asap, to get his feet wet, for lack of a better term...

Beats me. Your guess is as good as mine. I can come up with some hypothetical scenarios, though.
