Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Nice work by Ike on that DP! He should get some Schaefer for that.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I agree Jerr.U gave Parnell a chance and he was failing.get him outta there. But sheesh, Parnell wants to be a closer, I'd like to see him become the closer,...he gets a chance and bang-zoom, 1st and 3rd.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Funny how non-closers closing are eligible to get pulled when struggling but not designated closers.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Don't walk him Tak.Go after this guy.WOW.a call 4 us!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 You've been Takahad!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 We gotta be the best fans the Mets have anywhere. Still biting our nails when we are 9/10 games out, lol.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Lots of beer for pitchers and defense and not so much for the hitters ... but we'll take it.And we just .500'd ourselves again.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 I was so sure this was going to end badly. I'm thrilled that it didn't
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Funny how non-closers closing are eligible to get pulled when struggling but not designated closers.[/quote:31esj6mx]I was thinking this as Manuel pulled Parnell, as were all here I'm sure. Having no problem with pulling Parnell makes not pulling the big ticket closer all the more stupid in it's thinking.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Thing is, a closer with more of a track record - like KRod or a lot of others - certainly deserves a longer leash than does a relative newbie like Parnell. My only objection is that closers almost NEVER get pulled even when it's obvious they don't have it that night. When I did that little closer "study" I went through the box scores of more than 400 ML games (basically a month's worth) and saw maybe two closers that got yanked in the middle of an inning. There were a whole lot more cases where the manager went down with the ship.

Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Had a great evening with a banged-up Gwreck, TransMonk and TransMonkette (and G-Fafif earlier on)...and them winning was a refreshing change.
