OK, four two-timers left.

The first guy played mostly outfield before becoming a Met, and then was mostly an infielder.

Hint number two is that the team did well trading high on him.

Guy number two was the first of his kind.

Hint numbers two and three is that he came up when a Hall of Famer got hurt and made his debut in one of the most amazing games in the history of baseball.

The third guy was traded for a phantom Met, a player who never suited up but was flipped a short while later.

Hint number two is that he had his greatest performance in a game the Mets lost 11-5.

The awesome guy who did none of it for the Mets was Charlie Neal.

With Justin Turner emerging as the 141st third baseman in Mets history, I was reminded anew there were a lot of early Met infielders who did a rotation at third despite being thought of as second basemen or shortstops. Neal crossed my mind yesterday, today's hints drove him home.

Can't answer, as I cheated and looked it up. Your earlier clue wasn't terribly helpful, considering he played in another league and in another country, although accurate.
