I'd really love a double play.

Igarashi coming on cold to face Zimmerman with nowhere to put him.

This don't bode well.

How do the Mets only have one run against these crumb-bums?

STOP LETTING PEDRO PITCH TO FUCKING RIGHTIES PLEASE. EVERY OTHER RELIEVER OUT THERE IS A RIGHTY FOR FUCK'S SAKE.

At least we have three catchers

I know --if it's any consolation Ryota whiffed the 3 hitters he faced yesterday.

Tipping his pitches? Santana might as well say, "Belt-high changeup coming your way" and get it over with since they're not going to score more than a damn run for him anyway.

Well, that was pretty nasty, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Fall behind with curves out of the zone and then you're forced to throw him a fastball and Zimmerman had to be salivating, waiting for it.

Awesome.

It all starts with failing to throw strikes to a guys with a sub-.600 career OPS against lefties (and a .357 OPS so far this year). I can forgive not making the play on the Morgan bunt, and I can shrug my shoulders at Manuel leaving him in to face Guzman even though he's much better righthanded. But Harris was about as likely to get a hit in that spot as a pitcher would have been, and walking him is just not excusable.

They really been exhibiting many of the rotten qualities they showed back in April and May this past week or so: Not enough power, pitchers collapsing with two out and nobody on, itchy bullpen trigger, overworked relievers losing it, hopelessness in tie games on the road. Maybe we'll start bunting more now.

Back from a horrible evening at Nationals Park. Their fans suck so much that they now have a male cheerleader on each side. The dope on our side wore a colored wig, blew a whistle and danced to every at bat song. I hated him almost as much as I hate their mascot, the effeminate chicken. (The only good thing is that if you give the Gifford's ice cream guy a buck, he'll give you an extra scoop--it's supposed to be $3.)

Your team sucks: Igarashi is horrible and has no business being on the team. Cora is a great bench coach and has no business being on the team. (Tatis didn't play tonight, but he has no business being on the team either.)

3 hits over the last 7 innings. I'm [u:2wrn17ab]so [/u:2wrn17ab]sorry that they were tired after their long flight but there was a game on the schedule and it counted. E.g., Francoeur looked like he'd never seen a major league pitcher before. I was tired today, too, but I put in a full day of work. The Mets didn't.

And I can't get over walking a .155 hitter, even if it's Willie Harris.

Your manager is an idiot: Who makes a defensive change in the 6th inning? Jerry does. If he has so little confidence in Carter's defensive abilities, then he shouldn't start a game in the OF. Making this move, when combined with Reyes' ability, limited possible moves later in the game.

If Pagan was available to play half the game, he was available to start. Plus, I'd like to have seen Carter against Capps in the 9th.

Why PH for Blanco with 2 outs and nobody on? Blanco had 2 hits. Unless Bay hit one out, Jerry was counting on Cora, who is no good, to drive in the go-ahead run. The move to make was let Blanco hit and PH Bay for Cora. Tatis could have played 2d if Reyes wasn't available.

I don't think that's possible...
unless we start off inning with bunts.
We could do that.

Jerry, stop over managing.
Sometimes, you gotta let the game come to you.

If you wanna use K-Rod just to give him some work, use him in a blow out loss like Mondays.
We lost that 10-3.
Not a 6-4 game like Tuesday. That, IIRC, was the score when he came in.
Bad time to use him. Cuz this team is scrappy and they can come back from a 2 run deficit more than not.
And if they do tie or take a lead, K-Rods not there to do his job.

He could have gotten some work Mon., the save last night, and been available tonight.

I know it sounds like this is easy to say in retrospect, but as last few games were unfolding, this is what I was thinking.

I trust Jerry but that don't mean I won't jump all over his shit.
Course I will.
Bobby Vs just hangin in the wings waiting for an opening.
I bet he can overmanage your overmanaging Jerry.
I like you guy.
I'll miss ya.

You don't always have to make things happen.
Sometimes, let the game come to you.

In the post-game press conference, Jerry was asked why Rodriguez wasn't used in the 9th. He said "that's not what a closer does." Of course, what Jerry doesn't comprehend is that when you're on the road, there is no save situation and the bottom of the 9th is sudden death. While Jerry was searching for a role for his closer, his 4th best (at most) reliever was brought into the game.

The Diamondbacks have a new GM and manager tonight. Lucky bastards.

Actually there is a save to be had on the road, if they preserve the tie and score. There's no save for the home team in extras.

Not to say I agree with his choices, but I think the problem is more rooted in his yanking Santana when he did than the decisions he made once that was done: It was bound to get to that point sooner or later.

You're right JCL, but I don't like limiting your closer, your best reliever, for something that might not occur.

Jerry, after the last two losses, has given convoluted explanations that boil down to "I will not use my closer in a tie game on the road because I will not use my closer in a tie game on the road." Even he doesn't sound like he believes it's brilliant managing to cut out that option from the start.

David Lennon of Snoozeday suggests the Jerry Watch will be firing up again. One is tempted to say "tough town," but I haven't really had the sense it's been Jerry's managerial genius that's gotten us to within two games of first place...or that it will keep us in that range or better.

Or it might. Honestly I don't know. Kinda tough to tell the dude who's got a team playing above general expectations to take a hike.

It may well be that Jerry's managing genius has helped the team win the games they win. It's certainly helped them lose the games they lose as well.

Clearly road trips endanger the guy, and homestands protect him, somehow.

Letting quotes like that escape into print... well, somebody needs a toungelashing from Obama.

I have a better question that someone should have asked Jerry.
"With Pagan and Reyes out, why wasn't Bay in the starting lineup?"
