Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2010 Author Posted June 28, 2010 OK, Strasburg is really, really good but his team is really, really bad -- can't relieve, can't hit, can't field.Ian Desmond is looking like a disaster at SS lately and tonight he blew a GiDP ball which loaded the bases. Then a Sac Fly, bad throw, single, squeeze play, and whatever and it was 5-0 Atlanta. 4 runs to Strasburg, 3 earned.Philly down to their last out in Cincy down by 4
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Joel Zumaya blows his elbow out pitching @ Twins. Poor bloke was in agony as he was carried off the mound.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I was at Target Field tonight. It was ugly. Zumaya threw a 99mph fastball to Delmon Young and fell to the ground in pain. He was holding his elbow and was in tremendous pain as he walked off the field. Justin Verlander even came out of the dugout to check on him and wound up taking Zumaya's glove off the field.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Yeah, it was very cringeworthy. Objectively, is Target Field nicer than Citi?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Well, the Nats can't win with Strasburg. Might as well just trade him to the Yankees now.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Halladay is handed a 3-0 lead in Cincy, but gives up 1 each in the 6th & 7th then a 2R HR to Jay Bruce in the 8th.Phils down to their last out - runner on 2nd, Victorino up ... and he grounds out and the Reds win.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 The Phils are in a tough stretch right now, but the Mets would do well to make a strong move to put Philly behind them now, because the Mets are healthy and Philly not, but they probably have another run in them.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Phillies are 9-5 over the last 14 and weren't able to catch up. But I agree, they need to take advantage of Utley and Polanco being out and put some distance between them.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 The Phillies are pitching Halladay into the ground. Eight hits in the last three innings, and it doesn't look like the thought even occurred to them to go to the pen.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Giants hand starting catcher job to Buster Posey, ship Benji Molina to Texas for reliever Chris Ray.Sabean must be regretting the deal he handed that fat bastard this winter. Texas now has a surfeit of catchers--Teagarden, Saltalamacchia, and two others who have been on the big-league roster this year. Could portend a deal for Cliff Lee?

Saltalamacchia's the guy having the mental issues right? Maybe the Rangers are tiring of him, Bengie is the stop-gap solution, and Seattle can 'fix' Salty.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Yes, Salty having Sasser-like troubles returning the ball to his pitcher. DH may be in his future-- he was farmed out early in the season.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Saltalamacchia was always a questionable defensive catcher to begin with even before various injuries - mental and physical - kicked in.I think what Texas wants out of Bengie is a good "receiver" for all their young pitchers as they're in an actual pennant race for the 2nd half - and one they're not committed to beyond this year - while they wait to see what to make of Salty. Whatever bat they get out of him is a bonus, particularly if Hamilton & Vlad keep hitting like they have been recently. Meanwhile, Molina reportedly opted for SF over the Mets for the supposed "stability" and comfort level he'd get there when Omar wouldn't guarantee a 2nd year. How's that stability looking now fatso?
