metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 stealing the wonderful title of the Francesa thread. The first paragraph is NewsdayIn what appeared to be a staged moment (an ESPN camera just happened to be there), Alex Rodriguez interrupted his pregame stretch and trotted over to greet Joe Torre, who was standing behind the batting cage. The two chatted, smiling, for about 45 seconds.FakeAfter sharing the same field without a word for two days, Alex Rodriguez and Joe Torre shared a moment together before Sunday night's series finale."I thought it was important for me to go over there," said Rodriguez, who went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer in Sunday night's 8-6 win. "I thought it was the mature thing to do. I felt in my heart it was important to not let things linger, to build on what I've tried to build here the last two years."Said Torre: "I was glad we got a chance to shake hands."A-Rod had not acknowledged Torre during the first two days of the series, but as he stretched before batting practice Sunday night, Dodgers third base coach Larry Bowa walked over to A-Rod and whispered something in his ear.Rodriguez walked over to Yankees media relations director Jason Zillo to have a few words, then jogged toward the batting cage, heading directly for Torre."You don't want to let things linger," A-Rod said. "You don't know when the next time Joe and I are going to see each other. At the end of the day, I just wanted to be a gentleman and do the right thing."The manager jokingly held his hands up as though he was fending off Rodriguez, who countered with some shadow-boxing moves. The two men shook hands and spoke for 30-45 seconds, at the end of which Rodriguez was heard saying, "Thanks, Joe.""It was a big zoo on Friday and I didn't want to get caught up in that," Rodriguez said. "It took me a few days to get my thoughts, and I did that today. It was a nice exchange."Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2010/06/28/2010-06-28_alex_rodriguez_and_joe_torre_bury_the_hatchet_brett_gardner_to_have_xray_on_brui.html#ixzz0sACzMjIiDoes he not even get how fake it all seemed , Bowa needed to tell him to go over.....ugh , what a bollox
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 yeah. Jon Sterling was going on about this (not the fake part) in a disturbingly gushing way.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 What has A-Rod done to build on the last two years that he hadn't done before? Better manipulate the New York media?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 As always, once you do something purely for pr reasons things wind up looking even more forced than had they not been done at all.Meanwhile up above the field, someone (Mushnick in the Post I think) pointed out that it took Michael Kay more than half and hour into Friday's game before he even spoke the words Joe Torre. I think one of these days Joe is going to find himself disappearing from MFY photographs like some disgraced Politburo member from the Stalin era.

He was ranting yesterday about how A-Rod shouldn't have gone over there and he should've kept the hate going, complete with advice to kids "Kids, hate is healthy. People don't hate enough."
