metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 That picture of Reyes is great, his eyes look crazy.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I'm amazed that the Mets trumped the Yankees winning two games given the Yankeephilia of the NY sports media.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Uh, not for nuthin', but I remember when the World War II war movies used "Zips" as a derogatory term for Japanese (So was "Nips"). I realize he meant two games in which he gave up no runs, but somebody should eat a lot of sushi for that headline.Later

Later, it became a word used for all Japanese.Later

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Well, the Mets won the crosstown series and are now playing, beating, and shutting out the first-place two-time-pennant-defending division rivals. The Yanks lost the crosstown series and are playing the Twins --- interesting to New York Sports editors only when (a) local teams are taking their best players away from them, and ( when David Wells is pitching a perfect game against them.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 The Mets are also doing their Dew at home. But I'd argue that while the Yanks (as always) are winning the fluff-piece/dollarstore-hagiography war, the Mets have been drawing more tabloidy/back-page attention in general. The onfield ups and downs have been pretty extreme this year, making for damn good hacky copy; the off-field leitmotif of Minaya/Manuel's Last Stand (along with the Citifield-is-empty story some amateur sociologists favor) trumps anything drama-wise that the Yankees have to offer, unless Cashman suddenly and publicly decides he's Kim Ng in a white man's body.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 The MFYs will find themselves on the back page again if Minnesota could ever beat them and continue their struggles (the MFYs scored 4 runs over 2 away games and won both, WTF Twins) and/or when more Pettitte/A-Rod doping juice is revealed and you know it will be.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Well, I don't go for the goosechase myself but if Piazza wasn't juiced then juice didn't exist.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Note to self: don't select Murray Chass for my homicide jury.
