4 hits and 2 walks.

Don't get me wrong - he was superlative yesterday. But I want my 6.0 votes to go to something closer to perfection.

I'm sure I gave Niese a 6.0 for his 1-hitter. I may have given out another 6.0 or two for a strong pitching performance in a game with no Mets offense to speak of. But generally, I want to hold off on awarding 6.0 unless it's something truly great.

Fair enough.

But still... double-digit strikeouts leavens the six baserunners a bit, no? (As per ESPN, Niese notched a 91 GameScore for his one-hitter; Johan yesterday was an 87.)

It was definitely a close call. If it was one of those 1-0 games, I might have given Johan the 6. But I just didn't feel right about doing it yesterday - there was enough other beer to distribute.

Is tonight finally the night that somebody gets the perfect 6.0? Then again, if Niese couldn't get a 6.0 in his 1-hitter, I don't know how anyone else could.

I've given a few 6.0s out this year. Tonight was one of them. And Niese's 1-hitter was one of them.

Hey - it's not like I gave Johan a 3 the other day. It was the difference between 5.75 and 6.0.

The three games that the Mets played against the Phillies this past weekend will all close on Wednesday afternoon.

Both of the Mets losses are low on votes.

For the August 14 game, we've only heard from themetfairy, Ashie62, LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr, G-Fafif, John Cougar Lunchbucket, and Benjamin Grimm.

And for August 15, only themetfairy, Edgy DC, LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr, G-Fafif, and Benjamin Grimm have voted.

While you're at it, please be sure to get your votes in for last night's win over the Astros. That will be the last game I'll close before I leave on my summer hiatus. It will close some time on Thursday morning.

Voting for Monday night's win in Houston will close on Thursday morning. This will be the final Schaefer tally before September. I leave for vacation tomorrow evening and won't return until September 4. In the meantime, please keep starting the threads and posting your votes. I may or may not pop in from time to time but I won't be doing any vote tallying.

Okay, that's it! (For now, anyway.) No more Schaefer tallying until September. When I get home from Europe, I'll start catching up. I'll paste the UMDB box scores, and then I'll start tallying games played since then, without any additional notices here. Please continue starting the threads (and please make sure to have "Schaefer" in the title so I can easily find them) and try to get your votes in before the voting threads slip too far off the first page and become forgotten.

I think I'll have some internet access here and there, so I won't be completely out of touch. Although I do kind of like the idea of coming home two weeks from now and being totally surprised to find the Mets in first place!

Have a great trip!

For those of you who are normally given to voting in this project, try not to get too far behind just because Ben isn't here holding deadlines over our collective heads. Much easier to keep up with this stuff while it's still semi-current and (mainly because I just got caught up myself) all the recent games from both the Astros & Pirates series are either on page 1 or the very beginning of page 2.

Thanks, Frayed. It looks like the games of August 19, 20, and 21 are very light on votes, one of them has only four. They will close when I return to the USA, most likely with no further warning in this thread.

I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

All open Schaefer threads through August 31 are subject to being closed without any further notice. I'll give the standard warning, when I'm ready to tally the votes, for any games played on or after September 1.

It looks like many of the games are undervoted, some with as little as three responses.

(Oh, and thanks to those who have been opening the threads! I appreciate your keeping the candle burning for me in my absence.)

Welcome back BG!

It's my pleasure and honor to open the threads when I'm around :)

Only game I've missed in about six weeks. I'll try to get a vote in tonight.

I've always been of the mindset that if I didn't see/hear a majority-- or significant portion of the meaningful part-- of the game, that I'd politely decline to vote.

I mean, I can go strictly based on the box, but context is missing, dig?

Context can be re-assembled.

Even when the Mets win, nobody casts any Schaefer votes! Wednesday's win over the Mets has had only three votes so far. I know this season has become dreary, but with only about three weeks to go, I'll half-heartedly see this Schaefer stuff through to the end. Hopefully by April we'll once again be brimming with enthusiasm.

I think from this point forward I'll just close the games when I feel like it, and may not bother with these little reminder messages.

Schaefer POTG 9/8/10 - Mets 3, Nationals 2

My computer is dying at home. I hardly have the patience to wait for the boxscores and video highlights to load via my "high-speed wireless internet service."
