More Topps airbrushing (non-Mets division)

Uniwatch has been interesting this week. Topps airbrushed -- more likely, Photoshopped these days -- a Mariners uniform on Cliff Lee, but for some reason decided the Mariners needed to honor Harry Kalas, too, leaving on the memorial patch. And, the Mariners' road uniforms say "Seattle," not the team name.

I don't know if that's Citi-- our Spongetech ads are in left field, no?

I don't think that Lee's left arm either.....look closely at that.[/quote:1hxe3wco]

Probably done by the same guy who faked all those photos of Oswald holding the weapons.

No air-brushing here! A fun card.

Cliff Lee pitched for the Mariners at Citi Field?[/quote:2dufo6ef]

Nah. That's not Citi. I just browsed the bunch of pictures I have from roughly that angle, and while we do have rotating ads there, they're smaller, more 'embedded', and no orange stripe.

buy 4 packs of 2010 Topps Baseball at $1.99 and you'll pull a Mr. Met

Lee is seriously photoshoped

This is Topps lowest end set "Opening Day" and will be correct by the time Bowman ships later this month

Ashie's right and wrong. It's in the "Opening Day" set -- not the regular base set. The OD packs will set you back 99 cents for seven cards. The mascot cards are 1:6 packs, I think, so it's not so easy. (There are 25 mascots in the subset.) I pulled just the Ranger in five packs.

Spongetech won't be coming back to Citifield. The 'pons sicced their goons on them when they turned out to be deadbeats.

I've always found businesses that advertise with the Mets -- and almost nowhere else -- a little strange. Wondering how long till Arpielle Forklifts and Invest In Gold Coins NOW go belly up.

The invest in gold is EVERYWHERE. but yeah, who kows if Arpielle will even be there in 2010. I know it was one of the more criticized ads (for those that even care about such things) last season.

Any mascot race thing they do is gonna be better than the digital lighttower race.

How about those scrap metal guys? Aren't they on games all the time?

I always thought it odd that ARMITRON (official timepiece of the NY Mets), and not Timex, was the sponsor of the clocks at Shea. Don't recall ever seeing an ad elsewhere, but the local Queens connection must've accounted for the placement.

Am I misremembering there being a LONGINES clock at Shea?

Hmmmm... the AL and NL scoreboard switched sides at some point. I always recall the latter arrangement.

The AL on the right disturbed me as well. (The small amount of teams too)

In the second picture there, the Phi Phils abbreviation made me laugh, and the ad in the middle bottom "The 10 minute head: have you timed it yet" sounds vaguely dirty.

I own that older scoreboard. It's in my collection. The Mets discarded it when they decided to put the AL teams on the left side.

Armitron was later. there was a small one on the RF mezzanine (where number of pitches, speed, etc would be displayed), plus a larger one in CF

Elgin replaced Longines ... in 1977 (I think). In 1980, the Elgin (nee Longines) clock was replaced by ad space. A new Bulova clock appeared top center, where the big Met logo (and slide show contraption) once was.

Realsies. Wanna know what else? Last year, when no one was looking, I took all the Shea Stadium parts and reconstructed the ballpark in my backyard. I moved the old scoreboard with the AL schedule on the right to left field, and left the newer scoreboard in right. I'd invite you but I couldn't get any stadium seats. It's strictly SRO. And rickety.
