...subtracted from Charlie F. Manuel.

That was due to Vince Piazza's prodding, was it not?

Charlie's on Nutrisystem, the same plan that has, so far, helped remove 81 pounds from my fat ass.

Congrats to you both . Not that it would bother Charlie but that Nutrisystem isn't cheap is it Swanie?[/quote:bban07ue]

No, it's not

But I lived on yogurt, veggie burgers, salad and walnuts for a year to get the effect

I think Swanie and Charlie made the wise choice

I'm more of a Weight Watchers advocate. I dropped 40 pounds in about seven months, and ate real food the entire time.

Plus throw in the weight of the World Series trophy Charlie no longer had to haul around last fall.

I've had very few complaints about Nutrisystem food, and there is enough variety that the few items I've tried and didn't like I just don't order again.

I've got Charlie beat by four pounds! Finally hit the 60-pound milestone this weekend after inching close for a couple weeks. Of course, he's ending up about where I started. More power to him, I bet he feels much better.

Very nice! Congratulations! How long did it take you to drop the 60?

Back in 2001, I dropped 44 pounds. As of this past Christmas, I had gained back 41 of them. (Usually, they say, it takes five years to regain lost weight; it took me eight.) Since then I've knocked 11 off the total. Hopefully I'll drop another 20 or so and keep it off for more than eight years.

Good for you! Go for it!

I started July 7. I've been between 55 and 57 for what seems like the last month with the plateau thing. Finally broke through. I'd like three more, but I'll keep doing what I'm doing and see if there's a natural landing spot. If I could keep it here, I'd be happy.

(I also didn't toss any of the older clothes, just boxed 'em up and put them in the attic. I'd be happy if they stayed there, but I also know the weight creeps back on.)

Yeah, don't be discouraged if there's a little bounceback. You'll probably hit your low at some point, but within a couple of years you might gain back ten pounds or so. (At least, that's how it went for me.) If you can stabilize your weight at about ten pounds above your low, I'd call that a tremendous success.

It wasn't until years after that that I let complacency (and a fondness for ice cream) set in, and everything started to come undone. The biggest mistake I made was that I stopped stepping on the scale. It's the best way to be aware of a bad trend and to cut it off before it gets out of hand. When I stepped on the scale over the holidays (probably the worst time to do that!) it had been the first time in a long time and I realized I had work to do.

Coincidentally, I just ate a four-pound lunch.

I feel like puking in my wastebasket.

Part of being a Weight Watchers Lifetime Member is that you are encouraged to weigh in once a month. If you don't skip a month, and if you weigh in within two pounds of your official goal weight (or lower), the weigh in is free. Knowing that I need to weigh in each month has kept me focused on maintaining my loss.

And you, my friend, are an inspiration.

But that inspiration ends at running a marathon! I'm happy to cheer you on -- put I'm not running 26 miles, even for Tug! The president of one the colleges I cover challenged me to run a local 25K with him in May, which is just over a half-marathon. I'm leaning toward trying it.

I'd love to see Charlie Manuel get miles in between the mound and the dugout yanking his weak-armed hurlers out of the game!

Awww - thanks michigan. Back atcha :)

And believe me, this marathon stuff is a major commitment; there are times that I'm convinced that I've lost what's left of my mind. But I'll be focusing on it for the next 265 days, and then I'll never have to think about it again ;)

A half marathon is a much more attainable distance; there's much less to worry about in terms of training. carb replacement, electrolytes, etc. Best of luck with your 25K training, and let me know if you have any questions about it. I'd advocate doing it; it sounds like you want to, and the feeling of accomplishment from doing something like that is immeasurable.

Irish, it's not cheap, but there are a lot of ways to spread the cost out so a month's worth of food lasts a lot longer. Besides, the plan is much more about learning how to eat right than buying the food.

You could ration the food out to yourself in meticulously measured portions ... as if you were on a diet.

20 miles on a treadmill will do that to a person

I had a "root canal retreatment" and so I'm eating a soft diet to avoid disturbing it until they can put a permanent installation in. This has wreaked havoc with my diet of protein bars and cereal bars. I can still drink the shakes though. But pasta is soft and calorically dense.[/quote:2s2ov73w]

As opposed to being outside shoveling out of that day's blizzard, the Treadmill 20 wasn't so bad ;)

As the old joke goes, Charlie could have lost 50 pounds of ugly fat by chopping off his head.
