Why does everyone think he can't pull his own strings?

This thread title put me in mind of the "anatomically correct" Archie Bunker's Grandson Doll, which I can honestly say I have never seen but knew existed. Joey Stivic pictured in all his, uh, glory here.

In any event, I have my doubts as to whether Omar is autonomically correct in his assessment.

How did he actually say it though.

" I have full autonomy"

or

" Look , listen , all I'm saying is......if you look at things right now as they stand..at this moment I can tell you all here today...in this room ....that yeah I have full autonomy"

or?

You'd have to give me triple-digit odds to take the former.

What exactly did he say, K, and in reaction to what?

(Also... if he's riding ice that's as thin as most of us presume, what's he supposed to say? "I have no control over anything anymore in this position. If you have money for a bus ticket and the name of a shelter, I'd greatly appreciate your help?")

His exact words:

"Yes, I do have full autonomy. I know there's been some talk about that, but the bottom line is that I have full autonomy. The bottom line is we have a good group of staff that we work together. The bottom line is that we make decisions, and like anything else I have assistants around me and like anything else... you know, it's full autonomy. We feel good about working together, and we'll all continue to work together. I understand that there's gonna be a lot of article written about how the situation with the Mets is, and but when I tell you that I have full autonomy, I have full autonomy."[/quote:2peqkqb8]

Full autonomy is actually the name of one of the offices at Citi Field.[/quote:tx82dhte]

You sure? In Metsland, it's probably more likely some sort of medical condition.

Or, even more likely, Omar's name for his teddy bear that he goes home to every night and makes pretend trades with.

Every new Mets employee has to get a tattoo/tramp stamp of the words Full Autonomy.

I'm bored with this topic.[/quote:kxwfyx6a]

Same here.

Only it's pertinent. 'Cause if the Mets FO/work processes are as funky as Olney/Rosenthal report, then Omar isn't anywhere near the big problem. And if he's gone, well, who's to say that the folks who work this way-- and thought Art Howe "lit up a room," and sided with Phillips over Valentine, and presided over the supposedly toxic post-Phillips work-environs-- will pick a successor that'll be any better... and that any such potential successor that isn't stupid or desperate would WANT to accept an Omar-ian burden?

Frankly, even if I weren't bored of it, I wouldn't want to think about it. Because if it's untrue, it's silly and talk-radio-stupid and "Freddy Coupons"-y... and if it's true, it's staggeringly depressing.

I've decided for myself about 10 years ago that Wilpon, Wilpons now, suck and are the organization's biggest problem. Nothing's happened since to change my mind. I'm just sayin' that I ain't no bandwagon jumper, on this topic. For example, I thought the Wilpons sucked in 2006, when the Mets ran away with the division and were the National League's best team.

And then you forgot it ever happened.

You really came up with this torrid intransigence in the offseason between 1999 and 2000? Was it Todd Zeile?

Yes, it is pertinent.

But at the same time is seems that the source of whatever is being thrown up there as "proof" -- proof that either Omar is in fact the 'decision maker' (as GWB would say) or that he's nothing more than a stuttering dummy with Jeffie's hand up his back -- actually has little proof other than a vague feeling and an already made-up mind as to who's to blame and simply cherry-picks whatever tidbits support that predetermined conclusion.

So, until someone actually goes on record with something more concrete than "I hear sources are saying", I remain bored with the topic.

That was refreshing.

But I am still in no danger of becoming an O-gasm addict.
