Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 ....by the Giants, thankfully.http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/01/giants-resign-bengie-molina-to-oneyear-deal.html
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 A little bit o' sweat you got out of me.
Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Torrealba should hold them over a barrel now. . .it would serve them right for what they did to him two years ago.
Guest attgig Guests Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 so, are we done at catcher?apparently the mets offered 5mil +, but took less for sf.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Buster Olney reported Molina had denied the Mets offer and the Metsies will pursue PinieroGood...
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 This is terrific news. I mean, we'll probably still want for a catcher but geez. Yahoo

There's enough things to worry over/rail about re: this team without seeing monsters in the windmills.[1 year/4.5M isn't that bad a deal for him, actually. But I'll take a cheaper Torrealba or Pu-Pu Platter, thanks.]
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I think this means the Mets hit for the cycle today.

If Omar really refused to go beyond 1 year and 5 million, that will mean he played it perfectly.Except the part where he went as far as to offer 1 year and $5 million.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 We aleardy have a slow-footed catcher with some pop-Omir Santos..and he don't cost much

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Erasing a few 6-4-3's from the scorebook as we speak.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Between the Scrabble thread and having to google what FUBARmeant, I'm feeling pretty dumm.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Mex just shows up, drops a few poops, and walks away.

It's FUBAR I tell ya!I don't mean to poop and walk, seriously. Life unfortunately intervenes. Wish I didn't feel this way abou the team I love wither.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I guess some breaks are going the Mets way this year. I'm liking how this team is coming together so far, still waiting on who are 5th pitcher will be though. I'm also assuming they'll still sign some sort of catcher so I don't have to watch Santos anymore
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 "That ship has sailed. That's not going to be a fallback position for us." --- Brian Sabean on Bengie Molina, speaking on the second day of the winter meetings last month.Talk about fucked up beyond all recognition.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 I think the Mets dodged a bullet and I am thankful that Molina chose to accept the Giants offer rather than the Mets. Now, please go get some pitching Omar.
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Ken Davidoff sez that the Mets were concerned about getting hammered by the fan base for not signing Molina. I can't read the whole article due to Newsday's online subscription policy, but here it is:http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ken-davidoff-s-baseball-insider-1.1278117/team-fan-disconnect-starring-the-mets-and-bengie-molina-1.1713706?qr=1I'm hoping that the rest of the article describes an approach that will favor their own judgment and disregard that of the hysterical fan (or hack columnist as proxy for hysterical fan). They seemed to take their own path in the Molina negotiations to good effect; at the very least it could help them hold the line in negotiations with other, more valuable players.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Giants fans? Loving this.As evidenced by the 1270 "congratulatory" comments (!) over at Giants blog McCovey Chronicles following the signing.(I have to admit that seeing things like this don't exactly abate my relief... and give a nice perspective-approximate of what it's like to watch our struggles from the "outside.")SC: Pretty damn high.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Especially because they are in a similar situation to us, having a hotshot catching prospect for whom the Molina signing would be dialing back the ETA clock.Except their shot is hotter.
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Molina is a proven RBI man, and all Posey has done is hit well in the upper minors. We wouldnt know how Posey would hit until he received playing time in the majors, and we certainly arent going to give him playing time in the majors until we know how hell hit. Thats how most teams operate, Im sure.[/quote:1rvrgc2p]Awesome.

Which is just plain adorable.
