A little bit o' sweat you got out of me.

Torrealba should hold them over a barrel now. . .it would serve them right for what they did to him two years ago.

so, are we done at catcher?

apparently the mets offered 5mil +, but took less for sf.

Very telling. . .word has to be out there amongst the players that this is a FUBAR organization right now.

This is terrific news. I mean, we'll probably still want for a catcher but geez. Yahoo

Or, you know, not at all, since he could just be taking a similar commitment (1 year, 4.5M vs. 1 year, 5M) to remain in a place where he's spent the last three seasons and apparently enjoyed himself. There's enough things to worry over/rail about re: this team without seeing monsters in the windmills.

[1 year/4.5M isn't that bad a deal for him, actually. But I'll take a cheaper Torrealba or Pu-Pu Platter, thanks.]

Yup. If Omar really refused to go beyond 1 year and 5 million, that will mean he played it perfectly.

Except the part where he went as far as to offer 1 year and $5 million.

Between the Scrabble thread and having to google what FUBAR
meant, I'm feeling pretty dumm.

Mex just shows up, drops a few poops, and walks away.

My understanding that it was for a million more with a vesting option for another year, so there was a significant amount of additional teeth to the Mets deal. It's FUBAR I tell ya!

I don't mean to poop and walk, seriously. Life unfortunately intervenes. Wish I didn't feel this way abou the team I love wither.

I guess some breaks are going the Mets way this year. I'm liking how this team is coming together so far, still waiting on who are 5th pitcher will be though. I'm also assuming they'll still sign some sort of catcher so I don't have to watch Santos anymore

"That ship has sailed. That's not going to be a fallback position for us." --- Brian Sabean on Bengie Molina, speaking on the second day of the winter meetings last month.

Talk about fucked up beyond all recognition.

I think the Mets dodged a bullet and I am thankful that Molina chose to accept the Giants offer rather than the Mets.

Now, please go get some pitching Omar.

Ken Davidoff sez that the Mets were concerned about getting hammered by the fan base for not signing Molina. I can't read the whole article due to Newsday's online subscription policy, but here it is:

http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/ken-davidoff-s-baseball-insider-1.1278117/team-fan-disconnect-starring-the-mets-and-bengie-molina-1.1713706?qr=1

I'm hoping that the rest of the article describes an approach that will favor their own judgment and disregard that of the hysterical fan (or hack columnist as proxy for hysterical fan). They seemed to take their own path in the Molina negotiations to good effect; at the very least it could help them hold the line in negotiations with other, more valuable players.

Giants fans? Loving this.

As evidenced by the 1270 "congratulatory" comments (!) over at Giants blog McCovey Chronicles following the signing.

(I have to admit that seeing things like this don't exactly abate my relief... and give a nice perspective-approximate of what it's like to watch our struggles from the "outside.")

SC: Pretty damn high.

Especially because they are in a similar situation to us, having a hotshot catching prospect for whom the Molina signing would be dialing back the ETA clock.

Except their shot is hotter.

Molina is a proven RBI man, and all Posey has done is hit well in the upper minors. We wouldnt know how Posey would hit until he received playing time in the majors, and we certainly arent going to give him playing time in the majors until we know how hell hit. Thats how most teams operate, Im sure.[/quote:1rvrgc2p]

Awesome.

Also, he's a Buster. Which is just plain adorable.

Your understanding aside, the Giants deal is now completed and it comes with bonuses of up to $1.5 million if he stays healthy, which would make it richer than the Mets' deal.
