metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 If Bay isn't a Met, what will Francesa's excuse be? The physical? Some nebulous eleventh-hour offer from somewhere else? That it was Rex Ryan's fault? Or will he just insist, "I NEVER SAID BAY WAS COMING TO THE METS!"[/quote:1t3qocm9]A whole lot of hanging up will occur..
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 He'll say that stupid suck ass Mets had an agreement and dropped the ball. He'll make it out as the worst disgrace in the history of sports management and fans will buy it and he'll be in the clear.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 HeymanThe Mets have reached a deal to bring All-Star outfielder Jason Bay to New York pending a physical, SI.com confirmed. The news was first repoprted by Mike Francesa of WFAN, who added that the announcement will come early next wee
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 A bunch of media outlets are now reporting this as well, but always, it seems, with the "according to WFAN" caveat. (Heyman's tweet may be the first exception to that.)I guess it's likely true, but I won't really believe it until it's confirmed independently.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I hoped this would happen. This is good news.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I guess that means that the mets won't bend over backwards for molina.... that's one positive...Both halves of that are positive as far as I'm concerned (with the usual caveat of the price for Bay not being too high)It's also a lot more info than I expected. Even considering that nothing he said is fact at this point, I didn't even expect it to be anything about players. All of which leads me to wonder how and where he got his info and why he felt so confident sitting on it for nearly 24 hours. What it adds up to, IMO, is a bone thrown to him by Omar personally.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 You realize that by "breaking" news of a deal imminent (a week off, but imminent), he's setting the Mets up, right?[/quote:2azwg1pj]No doubt...
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 North Jersey.com The Mets have reached an agreement with free-agent outfielder Jason Bay, WFAN host Mike Francesa said on his radio show Tuesday afternoon. The New York Post reported that the deal is for four years and $66 million with a vesting option for a fifth year.Bay would have to pass a physical before the deal is complete. With offices closed for the holiday week, an announcement isn't expected until sometime next week.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 That's more money than he deserves, IMO, but whatyagonnado?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 Yeah, he's being overpaid but perhaps not horribly so. He may be tradeable in year three or four if the Mets come across a younger cheaper option. Now they need to get a starting pitcher or two. My guess is they'll turn their attention to Piniero now. (The other possibility is that they renew their efforts to trade Castillo and sign Hudson. I prefer the pitching scenario.)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 The Times is reporting that the deal was confirmed "by a major league executive who did not want his name used because the deal was not yet official."
Guest attgig Guests Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 little picture that i'm sure espn made months ago...and were finally able to use...also, based on the final salary...i wish they went with holliday at the same offer as the cards, and just sat on it like they did with bay.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 They should have tried to find a picture of Bay looking resigned, or disappointed. Something other than that smile which, come to think of it, doesn't look all that genuine.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 There's speculation/rumblings that the Mets are part of a three-team deal with the Cubbies that would bring expensive -- but sometimes effective -- headcase Carlos Zambrano to the Mets.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 There have been six Maple Leaf Mets, but none since 1973, if'n' you believe that nonsense. The last was Brian Ostrosser --- 0-5 in 1973. Canada's overdue to contribute to the great cause.
