Mike should try to stay away from Steve Phillips.

There were some additional photos of Brooke in the Daily News this morning that were slightly more flattering, but I still don't think she'll be getting any phone calls from Maxim.

If the sex was consensual then I wonder what grounds espn might fire him on, he's suspended now but a firing is no sure thing?

I do feel bad for his kids and the wife , no doubt they are going through some crap right now

As a few other posters mentioned, sportfucking is part of the corporate culture there (they handle themselves like louche athletes on the road... even MORE so than most remote crews). And not just peer-to-peer ink-dipping (which is somewhat understandable; I mean, it's Bristol... there's precious little else around for them to 'throw it on'-- back me up, Hartfordians?), but also senior managers bringing the "hey, intern/PA, sit on this" crap. Disciplinary measures, as noted in the Freeman book ("Juiced" for ESPN's boy's club?) and elsewhere anecdotally, seems to be almost entirely results-based-- "this is embarrassing, you're suspended"-- rather than process-based.

Will Leitch of Deadspin has a book, "God Save the Fan," that is a collection of sometimes funny rants. The best parts are when he wails on ESPN, with the manufactured personalities and faked debates. He said many of the opinions you hear expressed on there are assigned and written for the personalities. So, say, if Kruk picks the Yankees to win the series and Karl Ravitch picks the Phillies, it's because they were told to.

I've never watched it the same way again.

I just don't get the fascination with ESPN. Seems as if I outgrew that demographic even before I outgrew MTV.

Well, the thing is that whether you appreciate how they dish shit out or not --- DUH-DUH-DUH! DUH-DUH-DUH! --- they control the content --- DUH-DUH-DUH! DUH-DUH-DUH! Exclusive access on way too many sports, with the resources to blow competitive bidders out of the water on high-profile sports. Competing sports networks are left struggling to fill their schedule, uncreatively scheduling third-tier sports, re-broadcasts, and screaming opinion-mongers rather than doing a fun, low-risk hi-reward flanking maneuver.

Pretty much the same thing with Disney. You may not choose them as your family viewing, but if anybody comes up with a compeititve alternative, Disney will knock them out with a buyout bid and ruin that too.

DUH-DUH-DUH! DUH-DUH-DUH!

But what do I know. People have had 20 years now to steal MTV's uncreative lunch and haven't figured out how to do it. Market position is market position.

I find the only time I watch espn now is when the Mets are on Sunday Night or on saturday mornings becasue they now show Premier League soccer.

For me too (minus the soccer but with the occasional football game).

MLB network has rendered ESPN mostly irrelevant for me.

I still watch sporting events on ESPN. Mostly MNF and an occasional baseball game. I haven't watched Sportscenter or any of their analyst shows in years.

I do enjoy their ticker when I'm listening to a jukebox at a bar.

I used to love Baseball Tonight. It gave me some of that around-the-majors info that I used to crave and that disappeared when The Sporting News turned stupid.

But I can't remember the last time I watched. Probably before the 1994 strike, which made me stop caring about around-the-majors info.

... but why care so deeply about the personalities reading the highlights other than the fact it gives Deadspin douchenozzles something to pretend to be upset about?

I think I left the week those came out. The anticipation for the albums was so intense that I made a comment in the editorial room that they would go to numbers one and two even if Axl just stuck a mic up up his ass and recorded his farts. Somebody stole the crack (I have better than that) and used it in his story. Me pissed.

ESPN gets heavy rotation during college hoops season for me. And I still like Baseball Tonight over the MLB network shows.

I'm with you on college b-ball (or at least I was before we cut cable loose). But "Baseball Tonight?" Force of habit? 'Cause, I mean, it's so much less... GOOD than the MLB stuff.
