Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 We went and saw the Cyclones beat the Jamestown Jammers (Marlins) 8-4 tonight in Coney Island.A few too many walks (by them) and errors (2 by both teams) than you'd like to see but a pretty good game and a fun time capped off by running the bases with Lunchpail. My baseball-y impressions:Robbie Sheilds was a high draftee for us this year, led off and played ss: Made an error, swung early and made outs, though he did hit it hard twice that I saw. Um, not very impressive.Dock Doyle, C: Nice lefty swing, produced a single & double a few runs scored. Scored on a sweet hit-and-run double by...Sam Honeck: Reached base I think every time up, 2B, two singles and a walk, lefty swinger. Played first base, I thought was kind of slow on a foul pop he coulda caught but otherwise, very nice game.Nick Santomauro: Cleanup hitter, also a lefty, awful batting stance. I can't believe they let guys get away with that kinda stuff at this stage of their career. Holds the bat with his shoulders pushed out front as if he's trying to get his elbows to meet, then kinda rotates it back as the pitch arrives. I have no idea how he ever got around to whack a HR to right center but he did. Also K'd and GIDPed. Blech.Ralph Henriquez, DH: Body like a catcher, I think he and Doyle must switch C/DH duties. Couple of singles and RBI tonight.Nick Gregory, LF: Tried to knock over the catcher on a play at the plate, wasn't successful.John Servidio, CF: Argued with the ump after taking a third strike while his teammate was caught stealing.Nick Giaraputo, 3B; Matt Gaski, 2B: Eh and eh.Mark Cohoon: Lefty soft-tosser, went 7 innings, only trouble came in one inning where he walked the leadoff guy, gave up 2 singles and Shields made an error. Mostly pitched to contact and didn't give up much hit hard.Matias Carrillo Jr. relieved Cohoon. He is the son and namesake of a Mexican guy who pitched for the Brewers and Marlins in the 90s. Heavyset lefty. He gave up a HR to a Jamestown player, Kyle Jensen, that hit off the Cyclones logo above the scoreboard in left. What a shot. KInd of struggled.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Ralph Henriquez is indeed a catcher --- and already on his second organization while still in short-season A-Ball.http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/H/Ralph-Henriquez.shtmlHe may be a legacy, as his BaseballCube record is conflated with a namesake (and position-sake) from the late seventies. I like how the database not only concludes that those seasons were played by the same Ralph Henriquez, but that he took the field those years at the age of -9 and -8.Stupid robots!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Basball reference has them as 2 seperate players, as well as a 3rd Ralph M Henriquez who played in the 50's, could be 3 generations hereRalph Henriquez I[/url:3eol4uqk]Ralph Henriquez II[/url:3eol4uqk]Ralph Henriquez III[/url:3eol4uqk]
