Bill Madden - after months of articles about how the NY teams and their 'barren' farms were doing things the wrong way while Theo's club and his build through the system method was the way to go - is suddenly praising Cashman's spending spree and mocking Theo's "cheapness" as the ALEast threatens to turn into a rout.

Funny, innit, how the team on top is always the one who did things the right way to get there?

Fresh off a three-game sweep at the worst team in the majors (Nats, natch), the Marlins are three outs and -7 runs away from sweeping the first-place Phils, behind a handful of big hits by Cody Ross and some nice pitching at the bandbox from Josh Johnson and the resurgent Ricky Nolasco.

Nationals have won eight in a row. They were 40 games under .500 when they started that streak. SNY says that's the third best winning streak for a team that was 40 or more when the streak started.

Not at Yankee Stadium, no.

For some reason the Yankees make me dislike Steve Phillips more.

The Yanquis make me dislike life more.

Sawx finally score and even take a lead (2R HR from Victor Matinez) but then promptly cough up 4 runs and blow the game.

The debacle of this season would somehow be more tolerable if Josh, Cody, Hanley, et al. could win the division instead of the Phillies.

I don't feel that way at all. If (say) the Phils romp to a 100 win season I can sell myself the concept that at least they were really good, and then chortle when they lose in the first round of the divisional series.

However if the Marlins end up winning it with 88 games I go HOLY FUCK 88 GAMES. WE COULDN'T EVEN WIN 88 GAMES??????? IN A DIVISION WITH WASHINGTON??????

or something like that.

I get where you're coming from.

AND that feeling is drowned out by an mildly-evil wish to see the trash-talking 10-year-old (NORTH Jerseyan) Phils fan who lives down the block from my folks cry just a little; a last-month collapse to a team whose fanbase doesn't really care/exist would do the trick (If a lecture about the dangers of frontrunning ensues, from someone who cares about the little shmuck, all the better.)

Wait, you can't put a 10-year-old in his place?

Well, I can't make him cry without lawyers being involved somewhere along the continuum.

Mike Francessa just said on WFAN that A-Rod's home run in the 15 th inning really wasn't a pressure situation because if they don't score there, they just play another inning.
