Pineiro may throw a complete game here without breaking 90 pitches.

This is embarrassing , it's like I'm watching an all time great here , but it's Joel fucking Pineiro.

He's always been associated with the orange and blue.

I anoint him the best Elmer in Mets history. Way better than Elmer McGurch or even Elmer Elmerson.

And on to the 9th. Rally time motherfuckers!

Nothing to do but tip your cap to Jo-el and hope to kick their butts tomorrow.

Blah. Oh well, they'll win 3 of 4.

I just got home - is there a reason Sheff is planted on the bench?

Also, (this is like a notes column) when Dessens makes the rotation the fans in the K corner can print Fudd hats to hang up.

Because Jerry wants to torment Met fans by consistently playing the Marlon-Anderson-esque Tatis as the cleanup hitter.

That may be a better answer than the one I was expecting, which was a knee-bone-not-so-connected-to-the-shinbone-anymore kind of thing.

"Fucking" is a very common middle name in St. Louis.

Brooklyn boy shot by stray bullet throws out first pitch at Citi Field

Davonte Kelly (r.) shot in the head by a stray bullet on a Brooklyn baseball field.

The lucky Little Leaguer hit in the head by a stray bullet on a Brooklyn baseball field got a chance to live out his big league dreams Tuesday.

Davonte Kelly, 11, whose miraculous recovery amazed doctors, took the mound at Citi Field to throw out the first pitch at Tuesday night's game.

"My life is extraordinary now," Davonte said. "Ordinary kids don't get to throw out the first pitch."

Given an authentic Mets' home jersey with his name and No. 31 on the back, Davonte even got some hitting tips from his favorite player David Wright.

"It was fun to hang around and talk baseball with him," said the Mets' slugging third baseman, who gave Davonte an autographed bat.

After hearing of Davonte's near-miss on the news, Wright said he was thrilled to learn the kid was not only a Mets fan, but played for the Mets in the Spring Creek Little League in Starrett City.

"He was a little quiet at first; then he relaxed a little," said Wright, who took Davonte on a tour of the Mets' clubhouse and dugout, and introduced him to manager Jerry Manuel and veteran outfielder Gary Sheffield.

Davonte admitted to being tongue-tied around Wright.

"I was very nervous meeting this amazing player," he said.

On June 7, Davonte was waiting to take the field with his team when he suddenly felt a sharp pain in the back of his head and started bleeding.

He and his mother first thought he got hit by a baseball. When they got to Brookdale University Hospital, doctors discovered a bullet lodged 3 millimeters into his head. The slug dented his head, but did not penetrate his skull.

The shooter has not been caught.

I think the bullet somehow activated the public speaking part of his brain.

Quick, someone shoot me in the head. I'd like to meet David Wright and throw out the first pitch.
