Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 A story from Burkhardt. Sheffield got a personalized bat from the bat company for his 500th. And then he got one from each of the other players ans signed it and gave it to them. I think I like it. And I appreciated the 500th more than I thought I would (not that hard to do since I didn't think I would appreciate it at all.)But forget all that, he's picked it up with the players hurt. In May: .357 BA, .436 OBP, .545 SLG, 18 R, 4 2B, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 14 BB, 7 SO.Am I really appreciating a steroid guy? I guess so.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) Sheffield's problems were rarely, if ever, with his teammates. He'd just decide, every once in a while, that either the press, his team's mgmt, or MLB in general had it out for him and would go off on some angry yet non-sensical rant.As long as he keeps his yap shut I'm OK with him. Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I heart Sheff and whatever he's using that's gotten him his mojo back. He is CARRYING this offense.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I couldn't be happier with him , I've liked him on this team from the get go and we need him.Did I just say we? , sorry the Mets need him damn it.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I thought he brought a certain fear factor when signed..Nice to see he's carrying it and seems truly humbled to have a job.If he's 40 and performing his PED use would have to be light..Put him in the Hall with a Mets hat..
Piggiestomatoes Old-Timey Member Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 He has been money. In the spirit of full disclosure, I wasn't thrilled with the signing but now I'm scared to think of where we'd be without him.Oh. yeah, very nice gesture on the 500th.G-Money!

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Gary Cohen was saying something similar last night. He implied that the young players on the team are in awe of Sheffield and his accomplishments.Sheffield was a shot in the dark for the Mets that has paid off very well so far. Just a few weeks ago I remember some of us were calling for the Mets to end the Sheffield experiment when he was hitting around .150. (I wasn't one of those people, but I must admit that I didn't disagree with them either.)
