Thought I'd kick this off early what with the good guys having the day off today. Twelve MLB games on the slate today, none on ESPN or the MLB network however.

I am getting the free preview of the MLB Extra Innings package this week so I will be watching somebody.

Like Cliff Lee yesterday, defending NL Cy Younger Tim Lincecum was not quite stellar today and was pulled after 3 innings and 78 pitches. He gave up 4 hits, 3 ER, 3 walks and recorded 5 Ks vs. the Brewers. He also hit Ryan Braun with a pitch.

The Giants are still winning 4-3 in the top of the 4th.

On edit: Lincecum's replacement Joe Martinez has allowed 3 hits and hit a man in the first 5 batters he has faced and the Brewers now lead 5-4 and are still batting with one out.

Aaron Rowand homer-- with new first-sacker Travis Ishikawa (2-2 w/a 3-run 3B) aboard-- runs the Giants headfirst smack into the lead. 6-5, homeboys over Brewers, after 4.

Also, Josh Beckett throws fi-YAH! (10 Ks-- including 3 for Golden Sombrero candidate Carlos Pena-- against just 3 hits for the AL champs... Boston over TB, 5-1 after 7.)

After a brief flare-up from Team Tampa in the 8th (capped by a Longoria two-run single), Papelbon says, "Get your fingers out of that door frame... I plan to be closing that shortly." And he does. Final score: PinkHat Nation 5, Formerly Neons 3.

(Paps, Pedroia... even Lowrie. Y'ever notice the Sawx have a lawt of smirky dudes who'd look quite aht home telling jokes about ya mahther in the stands at Fenway Pahk?)

Across the country, break up the Giants: two insurance runs-- homer from Bengie "Non-F*cking" Molina, RBI double from Rowand-- plate, and it's 9-5 for the home team over the Beermakers, bottom 7th.

Would you rather them get all wet over Yankee wins?

Some of the reporters do. Many of them up in New England have acted like the NL hasn't existed since the Braves left Boston.

Jeff Keppinger singles home the gamewinner off Kubs Kloser Kevin Gregg (really?) in the 10th, Astrros win 3-2.

In fairness to kloser Kevin he got a bit of a bad beat in that inning.
- soft single
- seeing eye single
- fly to CF (best contact of the inning) that moved runner to 3rd
- IW (Tejada) to load the bases w/1 out
- broken-bat seeing eye single (Keppinger fell down hitting it) for the winner

KC, on the other hand, has a 2-run lead in the 8th and available is:
- Juan Cruz (who they just gave up draft picks for)
- LHP Ron Mahay (a trade from Atlanta)
- closer Jochim Soria
and the answer is ... Kyle Farnsworth! -- who starts the inning: bunt single - out - regular single - out

So it's 1st & 3rd, 2 outs, and Jim Thome coming up --
- time for the lefty Mahay?
- expensive set-up man Cruz?
- Soria for the 4-out save?

Nope! Mgr Hillman leaves in Farnsworth who promptly Fanrsworths all over the situation: ie. 3R-HR to dead central

But at least Soria's well-rested for today.
