I saw in Sports Illustrated that Scott Kazmir, in trying to turn his season around, has turned to, or all people, Rick Peterson --- who allegedly printed his ticket out of the organization.

Hideo Nomo makes it by virtue of 200 wins combined between MLB (123 wins) and Japanese Baseball (78 wins).

Jacket crest (from Hideki Matsui):

And hat:

Is it me, or do they clash a bit?

Justin Huber hit a grand slam homer against Buffalo the other night, and his Rochester team is pitching Phil Humber against Buffalo this afternoon.

Huber again is hitting decently at AAA: 35 of his 92 hits for XBs and 16 HRs in ~350 ABs
and again can't get any time in the majors, barely 150 ABs scattered over the last 4 seasons

He lost his "prospect" status a while back when he could no longer pretend to be a catcher and is long ago out of options and presumably will be a FA at the end of the year.
I could see him in consideration for a PH & platoon partner w/Murphy if they don't go out and get a full-time 1B this winter

Turns 28 next summer.

So Matsui achieved his 2,000th hit on Saturday night, with a Kazzesque grounder to deep short.

Congratulations I guess.

So what the heck is the Meikyukai all about? In 1978 Masaichi Kaneda, The Emperor, one of Japanese baseballs all-time great pitchers, created the Meikyukai as a friendship club . . . to promote baseball and contribute to society. The membership rules are simple: get 2,000 hits, 200 wins or 250 saves, and youre in.

Those hits, wins and saves can come in NPB or MLBalthough foreign-born players who achieve these milestones in the U.S. and Japan are not eligible for membershipand active players are inducted as soon as they reach the milestone. Japanese MLB players like Kaz Sasaki, Shingo Takatsu, Ichiro Suzuki, Hideo Nomo, and Hideki Matsui have all achieved membership.

Which leads me to another question.
Ichiro has been in the majors for 9 years, and has amassed over 1,900 hits with a .330+ BA.
If he plays only one more year here, do you think he will make the MLB Hall of Fame?

Seconded.

I think he's in if he never plays another day. They'd find a way around the ten-year rule.

I don't think they waive the ten-year-rule unless something drastic happens, like he suffers a debilitating injury or dies. But yes, he's a HOFer.

The 10-year rule doesn't work in the new global baseball world, so something has to change.

Ichiro is a sure fire HOFer in my view. Unlike McGwire, Bonds, and Asshead, I doubt steroids will cast any shadow over his future consideration for enshrinement.

Well, if he never plays another day, it would likely be due to something drastic.

Livan threw a complete-game last night, but lost 3-1.

Naturally, the first two batters he faced got hits and scored.

In keeping with the spirit of the thread, I happened to pick up a copy of USA Today.
Every Tuesday, they give the baseball statistics, by team.

Here's a team made up (quickly - I may have missed a few) of players who were ex-Mets property and who are now with other teams:

SP
Bannister
Kasmir*
A.J. Burnett
Hampton*
L. Hernandez

MP
Mota
Dotel
Oliver*
Bradford

RP
Lindstrom
Bell

C
Flores
Castro

IF
Jacobs*
Keppinger
Scutaro
Wigginton
Mota
K. Matsui (s)

OF
Bay
Cameron
Milledge
Nady
Church*

I'm not crying any rivers over those guys. In fact, the 2009 Mets -- current roster status -- would put up a decent fight in a series.

It would be a squeaker.
If everyone were to be healthy, it would be no contest.

I'd throw O'Day into that list. after Omar's **** move to cut him a few days after his friend died, O'Day's put up a great season being the 7th inning guy in texas.

Mulvey sent to Arizona for Rauch (essentially - both were cash trades)

Omar didn't really cut O'Day, he was forced to expose him to waivers when Pelfrey needed to skip a start. And he might notta been exposed had he pitched as well for the Mets as he has the Rangers (who all year risked losing him at a demotion). Or if he could have started.

PS -- Rocky Cherry was released by Boston after spending most of the year at AAA Pawtucket and signed by the Padres' AAA team.

Went to Detroit last night to see the Royals beat the snot out of the Tigers. (Three three-run homers will do that)

The Tigers sell game-used stuff, and there were jerseys and caps from the Negro League tribute day against the Indians. They had plenty of Cleveland Buckeye caps for $25, so I looked for one around my size.

Snagged one with a No. 6 written on the underside of the brim, and checked the roster today. Turns out it's Luis Rivera, first base coach -- and former Met! He played 32 games in 1994, batting .279.

Young Mr. Carp smacks his first ML home run at Safeco Field in a 4-1 Mariner win over the ChiSox.

The local press quoted him as saying "Yo no soy Marinero. Soy Capitan!"
