They explained that it's because of the limited capacity of Citi Field.

Hmmm. Maybe they should have added another 10,000 seats to the stadium.

Have you ever enrolled in the Kids Club before? My daughter is asking and I'll probably get it for her. (She's 7.) I'm just wondering how happy/disappointed she'll be.

i enrolled both my kids a few years ago (My daughter was 8-9, my son was 4-5). It was ok; they got alot of merch. we never used the free tix.

MK has been in the club for years - his Fan Club Membership number is 4.

It used to be an incredible deal, with many more freebies. Over the years the value has eroded, but it's still not bad. I signed the kid up for this year, figuring that there may be an event or two that would be worth attending.

Your daughter will get a nice box in the mail complete with a visor, a photo album, a folder, and a few other items. It's not the worst $25 you'll ever spend. If she's not expecting anything more than that, then any event at the new stadium that you get to attend is a bonus. So keep her expectations low and she'll likely be a happy camper.

It used to be a good deal. They get lots of stuff some they'll use some they won't. But it's a bummer they don't include the free tix. Without the tickets I don't really know that it's all that great a deal.

Since we live 2+ hours away, we almost never were able to make use of the free tickets.

Up until two years ago, MK would get a free gift from the fan club every time he visited Shea; when they started this they would let the kids select from old promotion items, but over time the choices weren't as great. In 2007 they changed it so that the kids got three coupons to redeem for prizes for the season, and the prizes were pretty minimal. Last year the kids got a card that had to be punched. After five punches, they got the crappiest little Mets Fan Club For Kids pennant you can imagine, and they got a second card. After ten visits, MK got a nice Mets hat that commemorated Shea, and yet another card. I knew from experience that they weren't picky about having a kid be the one to get the card punched, so I gave the second card to G-FAFIF since I knew he'd be at the games during Shea's final week. Five more punches got another hat - a blue Mets cap with a blue button. After much discussion (I wanted G-FAFIF to keep the hat, since he earned it, but he wanted to give it to MK), the kid got the second cap.

In past years we took advantage of the Picnic Area seats offered to the Fan Club for Kids members - $25 tickets for one or two games during the season, discounted concessions, and the kids got to be on the field for the National Anthem. MK enjoyed these events.

Is it worth $25? I still say yes. It's not the slam dunk that it used to be, though - the Fan Club For Kids used to be a great value, and now it's merely not a ripoff.

This is from a clinic that MK was able to attend through the Fan Club For Kids about three years ago. It was a great event, and he loved it.

In recent years, though, I think that such experiences came at a cost. IIRC the clinic we attended was free (so long as you registered early) when you attended a Picnic Area game.

I am on the fence... I think Fboy would love all the Mets booty under the tree but I do not know if it's worth the cost or not.

Thanks though for the post... options are always good.

You're welcome.

For me, the final factor is that, even without the free tickets, there are occasional opportunities to purchase discount tickets to games through the Kids Club. For the next couple of seasons, that might prove to be an affordable way to bring a family to a game.
