Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Even if we don't play tonight at least somebody will.Tampa lost already and so need Boston to lose tonight to clinch the EastArizona is losing at the moment to StL and so the Dodgers may clinch the NLWest before they even take the fieldAnd, most important to us, Milwaukee is under the dome against Pittsburgh.Yovanni Gallardo was the Brewers' hot-shot rookie pitcher but he goes tonight for the first time since May. LHP Zack Duke opposes the RH-heavy Milwaukee lineup.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 All the more reason to appreciate the heroes who saved our show tonight.I mean, Ramon Hernandez? Shit, that guy won't even be eligible for the post-season without some fancy dealing of the cards.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Great, we get a team that would love nothing better than to knock us out on the final weekend AGAIN, and they get a team that probably will just be a bunch of C-Teamers.Should be one hell of a Goddamned weekend.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 Twins get 2 in the 8th to tie up the Chisox.A Twins win will def be more fun.

The Marlins have never been shy about expressing their desire to beat the Mets. The Mets should take that and run with it and pound those fuckers into sand. This is the last weekend at Shea forever, there is a playoff berth on the line, the Mets are home with a packed house for all 3 games and Santana's pitching on Sunday.Let's go.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I am not sure how they normally do this, but will lou run out his regular lineup on the last day of the season for kind of a tune up run so they aren't not all playing together for a long time? Or is rest the name of the game?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2008 Author Posted September 25, 2008 Twins climb out of a 6-0 hole to tie it in the 8th and win it in the 10th.Now THEY are 1/2 game in front after the sweep.

Or is rest the name of the game?Well, they're not opening the NLDS until Wednesday, so after Sunday's game they'll have two days of rest. And they're ending in Milwaukee, which is close to Chicago anyway, and a stadium where their guys like to pitch no-hitters.If I remember Davey Johnson's approach in 1986 and 1988 correctly, he didn't want complacency. He wanted the team playing to win right up until the end. Don't take the foot off the gas pedal, go full steam ahead. I would imagine that Lou Piniella would have a similar approach.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 He'll do what he did at Shea: give his regulars some at bats, and have a look at some of his other guys. I was somewhat surprised that Soto, Ramirez, and Lee all had the same night off, and I would be surprised if that were the case again. That first baseman yesterday certainly showed he deserved another look.
