Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Red Sox and Orioles going into extra innings (tied at 4) at Fenway.Marlins have beaten the Braves, but Florida no longer worries me. (At least, not at the moment.)The real important game is Phillies at DC tonight at 7:10.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 BoSox get 2 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, then score the winning run on an error on a sac bunt to beat the Os 5-4, adding further pressure on the MFYs.Other games involving teams in races:ChiSox top the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians", and St. Lou leads Arizona 2-0 in the 4th.Edit: Ooops. BG beat me to this. Great minds think alike I guess.(Merged from OoTS 9/3, 9/3/2008)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I'm declaring this the official OoTS of this day
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Let me see if I can remember how to use the Merge tool that I created...
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Agreed. But mine did have the correct Boston score. Sox win 5-4.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Phils score two in the first, the Nationals tie it up in the bottom of the inning.Phillies add a run in the third, leading 3-2 with Washington batting in the bottom of the third.Yankees have jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the Rays.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Zimmerman homer off Durbin in the bottom of the 7th ties it up, 5-5.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Zimmerman knew! Tyler flew.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Watching Phillies/Nats on MLB EI. These announcers sound like guys who have watched a lot of losses this year.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 WOO HOO! Ronnie Belliard with the 8th inning RBI single and the Nats are up 6-5.
Guest KC Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 6-5 Nats - yeah this Washington feed is funny to listen to. 1 out with two on and a pitching change. Belliard!
Guest KC Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Guzman with a bases clearing fucking double!!! 9-5
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Nice Mets-style bullpen collapse by the Phils there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 I just peeked at the score and that 4-spot in the 8th was the second nice baseball surprise of the day. (Last time I had checked, the Phillies had regained the lead, 5-4.)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Now the Nationals may have it.One out, one in, runner on third. Utley, Werth, Howard due up.9-6 Nationals.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Utley gets a meaningless sac fly.Two out, nobody on. 9-7 Washington.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 9-7 Washington is your final. The Mets have a three game lead.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Those Nats scared me a little there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 And Werth fans for the final out!Final score: Nationals 9, Phillies 7.A VERY good day.A very good week so far too. The Mets playing the Brewers while the Phils played the Nationals was very favorable to Philadelphia, but the Mets gained two games in the standings and dropped the magic number by four.Excellent!EDIT: They dropped the magic number by FIVE over the last three days.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 The Nationals are playing some great ball lately , 7-3 the last ten games.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 Hopefully they cool down by Tuesday when they come into Shea for two games.Mets then play a four-game set in Washington the following week.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Meanwhile the Astros have been en fuego ever since they fucked us up in that series last month. 8 in a row including a sweep of the Cubs. If they gain one more game on Milwaukee the newspaper will have to start including them in the Wild Card standings (they are 5.5 GB; St, Louis, the last team listed, is 4.5 GB).Not for nothing but the Cubs have gotten bad health nooz on Zambrano and Harden in the last few days. Is it possible they peaked too early in the same way Houston is peaking too late.I'm beginning to see some sunshine for the Mets, is what I'm trying to say.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2008 Author Posted September 4, 2008 John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote:I'm beginning to see some sunshine for the Mets, is what I'm trying to say.Yeah, me too. We're looking pretty good for the main prize, the division title*, but the Wild Card is become a more viable fallback option.*We'll have a much clearer view of the division situation on Monday morning, barring rainouts.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Brewers lose. They should be careful before Philly sneaks up on them.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2008 Posted September 4, 2008 Benjamin Grimm wrote:We'll have a much clearer view of the division situation on Monday morning, barring rainouts. The Mets and Phillies have no common off-days for the remainder of the season, so a rainout on Friday or Saturday will almost certainly mean a separate-admission doubleheader on Sunday with the first game starting at 1:10 PM.A rainout of the Sunday night game would be made up (if necessary) on Monday, September 29.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2008 Author Posted September 5, 2008 Hopefully it wouldn't be necessary. That would kind of mess up the Shea countdown though, wouldn't it? It would have to be something like 12 (or 13, if necessary). And the last regular-season game at Shea might not turn out to be the last regular-season game at Shea.
